More effective justice with drug victims – Caritas Malta on latest White Paper

Caritas Malta ssottomettiet formalment l-opinjoni tagħha dwar il-White Paper. Din l-istqarrija tikkomunika l-punti ewlenin tal-ħsibijiet li għaddiet nhar il-Ġimgħa 9 ta’ Frar 2024. 

L-opinjoni tinkludi l-ħsibijiet ta’ madwar 45 resident li bħalissa qed jagħmlu programm residenzjali ta’ rijabilitazzjoni ma’ Caritas Malta, klijenti li għamlu użu mis-servizzi ta’ Caritas fil-passat, u tal-istaff ta’ Caritas Malta li jaħdmu kemm fil-qasam tar-riabilitazzjoni kif ukoll tal-prevenzjoni.  

Caritas Malta laqgħet il-proposti elenkanti fil-White Paper li għandhom il-potenzjal li jiffavorixxu r-rijabilitazzjoni ta’ persuni li huma dipendenti fuq id-droga u li jsarrfu f’iktar ġustizzja soċjali, iżda ma qablitx mal-proposta tal-ammonti indikati biex wieħed ikun eliġibbli għad-Drug Offenders Rehabilitation Board… Read more »

Pope Francis canonises Argentina’s first female saint

Pope Francis canonises María Antonia de San José, describing her as a “wayfarer of the spirit” and “a model of apostolic fervour and audacity”.

‘Mama Antula’ is Argentina’s first female saint.

She was canonised by Pope Francis – himself Argentinian– on Sunday morning, in a Mass in St Peter’s Basilica.

Carmelites decide to remain in Valletta, Fgura and Santa Venera

During the 2024 Provincial Chapter of the Maltese Province of the Carmelite Order, it was decided that the Carmelite friars would continue to sustain their presence and service in three out of six communities. Archbishop of Paris unveils celebrations for Notre Dame Cathedral reopening

Archbishop Laurent Ulrich of Paris presents several initiatives for the reopening of the Cathedral of Notre Dame on December 8, 2024, including an inaugural triduum and an octave of prayer.

COMECE on the Artificial Intelligence Act: “It does justice to the ethical foundations of the EU”

The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) issued a statement titled “A European Call for Responsibility – Ethical Demands for a Human-Centric Artificial Intelligence,” on Friday, 2 February 2024, welcoming the recent adoption of the EU regulation on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Bishop Jamnik: “It is the first robust EU regulatory framework for AI that does justice to the ethical foundations of the European Union.”

President Vella makes emotional last visit to Dar tal-Providenza

In his final official visit to Dar tal-Providenza, President of Malta, George Vella, expressed his heartfelt satisfaction with the care provided to the residents of the facility.
