Migrants and refugees at the heart of Pope’s new ‘Motu Proprio’

  • Pope Francis has created a new Dicastery to better minister to the needs of the men and women the Church is called to serve. The new “Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development” was instituted in a Motu Proprio published on Wednesday in the Osservatore Romano.  The dicastery will come into effect as from 1 January 2017 and will be especially “competent in issues regarding migrants, those in need, the sick, the excluded and marginalized, the imprisoned and the unemployed, as well as victims of armed conflict, natural disasters, and all forms of slavery and torture”…

Pope Francis receives Facebook CEO in private audience

Pope sends Vatican firefighters to quake town of Amatrice

  • As a concrete sign of his closeness to the victims of Italy’s earthquake, Pope Francis has sent a team of six firefighters and six Gendarmerie from the Vatican City State to Amatrice, the city in central Italy worst affected by the quake. A statement from the Holy See Press Office said the six firefighters and Gendarmerie would help Italy’s Civil Protection workers search for survivors still under the rubble and assist those already rescued…

Appeal for assistance for the victims of the earthquake in Italy

Collection during mass this Saturday and Sunday

  • At the request of His Grace Mons Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, Caritas Malta, as the representative for the Church in Malta, in collaboration with Caritas Internationalis, has launched an appeal for monetary contributions in aid of those people who have lost their relatives and their homes, and those who have been wounded , following the earthquake in Italy.  Many of the victims are children and there is an urgent need for assistance.  In this respect, the money collected in our parishes during masses held this weeked, Saturday 27th August (evening) and Sunday 28th August 2016, will be donated towards this cause.  Christians are invited to offer their contribution in aid of all those people affected by the earthquake in central Italy.  Monetary donations may also be handed to parish priest, or taken directly to Caritas.  Alternatively cheques may be mailed to ‘Caritas Malta Emergency Fund’,  5, Lion Street, Floriana FRN 1514…
