Statement by the Interdiocesan Commission for the Environment on the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

  • There are various references to trees in the Bible, including some that refer to the “tree of life”. Apart from their metaphorical meanings, trees do provide a great service to humankind. Their greatest contribution is much closer to home than the inspiration that they provided and continue to provide to poets, painters and musicians over the ages. Apart from providing the raw material for various goods they also provide an immense service in the form of carbon sequestration, reducing pollution, shelter from the sun, recreational space where people can interact with nature and the obvious aesthetic value both in rural as well as urban areas…

The Commission for Justice and Peace

  • Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna has re-established the Commission for Justice and Peace and has appointed Mr Daniel Darmanin, an architect by profession, as President of the Commission for a three year term.

The 2017 Season of Creation

The events are being organised by the Church Environment Commission and Nature Trust Malta

  • The 2017 Christian Season of Creation (1st September to 4th October) in Malta and Gozo will be launched by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna during a Solemn Mass at St. John’s Co‑Cathedral, Valletta, on Saturday 2nd September, at 6pm. The Mass will follow prayers for creation which will be said in all churches in Malta and Gozo on 1st September.

    A closing Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Mario Grech, at the Conventual Franciscan Church in Republic Street, Valletta, on Sunday 1st October at 10:30 a.m…

Vatican announces Papal visits to Myanmar and Bangladesh

  • Welcoming the invitation of the respective heads of state and bishops, His Holiness Pope Francis will make an Apostolic Visit to Myanmar from 27 to 30 November 2017, visiting the cities of Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, and to Bangladesh from 30 November to 2 December 2017, visiting the city of Dhaka. The programme for the Visit will be published shortly.

  • Pope Francis gave an important address on the liturgical reform on Thursday, speaking to participants of the 68th Italian National Liturgical Week.

    The liturgical reform, he said, did not “flourish suddenly,” but was the result of a long preparation. It was brought to maturity by the Second Vatican Council with the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium, “whose lines of general reform respond to real needs and to the concrete hope of a renewal; it desired a living liturgy for a Church completely vivified by the mysteries celebrated.”
