Beautiful sign of God’s love – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the 30th anniversary of the presbyteral ordination

The Parish Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, St Paul's Bay

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Tletin sena ilu bħal-lum konna fl-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann fejn ġejna ordnati saċerdoti mill-Arċisqof Ġużeppi Mercieca. Illum għandna f’qalbna gratitudni kbira lejn Alla u lejn dawk kollha li waqfu magħna tul is-snin kollha ta’ ħajja saċerdotali.

Nixtieq li, ispirati mill-Kelma ta’ Alla, naħsbu fuq dak li jgħidilna l-Mulej fuq kif nistgħu naqdu b’mod sabiħ il-ministeru saċerdotali. Insemmi tliet punti li l-Papa Franġisku, f’dawn l-aħħar xhur speċjalment, semmiehom kemm-il darba u sejħilhom “karatteristiċi tal-istil ta’ Alla”, jiġifieri tal-mod kif Alla jaħdem fil-ħajja tal-bniedem… Read more »

Making choices that are based on legality, justice and integrity – the Archbishop on Police Day

Mass on Police Day

The Co-Cathedral of St John, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Din is-silta mill-kapitlu 10 ta’ San Mattew miktuba f’kuntest speċjali ħafna: il-kuntest meta l-komunità Nisranija kienet għaddejja minn persekuzzjoni l-iżjed ħarxa. It-twemmin f’Ġesù kien qed jifred il-familji, iwassal għall-mewt, joħloq inkwiet u kultant ukoll kunflitt. Il-kelma ta’ Ġesù tiġi mfakkra f’dan il-kuntest, kuntest ta’ għażla li mhix dejjem faċli. Bħal min irid jagħżel bejn it-tajjeb u l-ħażin.

M’ilux kont qed naqra ktieb ‘Dying to live’ ta’ Danielle Vella, li jġib rakkonti ta’ diversi refuġjati u migranti… Read more »

Be the oil that the Lord pours onto your community – The Archbishop

Mass at the beginning of the pastoral work of Fr Joseph Mamo OFM Conv. as parish priest of St Paul's Bay parish

The Parish Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, St Paul's Bay

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġesù kien għamel l-esperjenza tal-missjoni tiegħu, u beda jgħallem u jfejjaq. Fl-Evanġelji tal-Ħdud li għaddew, rajna lil Ġesù jterraq fil-Galilija, ifejjaq u saħansitra jqajjem mill-imwiet lit-tifla ta’ Ġajru. Illum mar fir-raħal fejn trabba u jħoss li ma jilqgħuhx. L-urġenza li jwassal l-aħbar it-tajba tas-saltna tal-Missier hi qawwija ħafna; u jagħżel li jsieħeb miegħu wħud mid-dixxipli, minn dawk li kienu qegħdin isegwuh, li l-komunità bdiet issejħilhom it-Tnax, “u beda jibgħathom tnejn tnejn, filwaqt li tahom is-setgħa fuq l-ispirti ħżiena” (Mk 6:7)… Read more »

The Sunday Gospel: 11th July

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings of the day

First Reading: Amos 7, 12-15
Psalm: 84 (85), 9ab-10. 11-12. 13-14
Second Reading: Ephes 1, 3-14

Gospel: Mk 6, 7-13

In those days, Jesus called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics.

He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.”

So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.  Read more »

A book launch organised by Justice & Peace Commission, JRS and Migrants Commission

  The Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

“No one wants to leave home, but life forces you.” These were the poignant words by one of the refugees whose experience features in the book ‘Dying to Live’ by Danielle Vella, journalist and director of the International Reconciliation Program for the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS). The book was launched during an event hosted by Archbishop Charles Scicluna at the Curia in Floriana, during which the author herself as well Daniel Jude Okoeguale, an asylum seeker residing in Malta, were interviewed… Read more »

Wise and discreet can go together – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Hemm diversi nies li jisseparaw, jagħmlu firda bejn min hu twajjeb u min iħaddem moħħu. Fil-fatt, tismagħha din, fuq xi ħadd: “Dak veru twajjeb, m’għandux ħażen”, imbagħad wara ftit “jagħmlu li jridu bih!” U fuq ħaddieħor; “Dak ħażin, moħħu jilħaqlu, ma jidħkux bih!”

Qisha hemm firda bejn il-wieħed u l-ieħor, ma tistax tkun il-wieħed u l-ieħor f’daqqa. Fil-fatt, diversi nies jgħidu li kważi aħjar ma tkunx twajjeb, ħalli n-nies ma jagħmlux li jridu bik… Read more »

Proximity, compassion and tenderness – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Hemm tliet kelmiet li l-Papa Franġisku juża diversi drabi, u speċjalment użahom f’dawn l-aħħar xhur, biex ifisser l-istil ta’ Alla. Jgħid – dawn huma l-kelmiet tiegħu – viċinanza, kompassjoni, u tenerezza. Dawn narawhom ħafna fil-ħajja ta’ Ġesù, u f’dan ir-rakkont li smajna mill-Evanġelju skont San Mattew, narawhom jispikkaw b’mod sabiħ.

L-ewwel nett: viċinanza, jiġifieri li Alla hu qrib il-bniedem… Read more »

Rid us from our stubborn head – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

L-ilment li smajna llum fl-Ewwel Qari fil-Ktieb tal-Profeta Eżekjel dwar nies “rashom iebsa” hu lment li nistgħu nifhmuh. Għax min hu rasu iebsa – aħna ngħidu bil-Malti, b’espressjoni li tassew nifhmuha, “ras taż-żonqor” – diffiċli tipperswadih, diffiċli li jaċċetta dak li hu ovvju kultant. Ikun tant stinat li tiegħu biss tajjeb.

Niesu ma laqgħuhx

Fil-Kelma ta’ Alla llum, għandna mhux biss f’dan l-Ewwel Qari n-nies rashom iebsa, imma fl-Evanġelju Ġesù jiltaqa’ ma’ nies fl-istess pajjiż minn fejn kien hu, li wkoll kienu rashom iebsa… Read more »

Psalm: 122(123), 1-2a,2bcd,3-4

In those days Jesus came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, “Where did this man get all this? … Read more »
