In those days, John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not stop him; for no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. Whoever is not against us is for us.

A heartfelt response – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Aħna mdorrijin li nisimgħu l-kelma ta’ Ġesù u fiha naraw dak li jgħallimna għall-ħajja tagħna u li jurina kif għandna ngħixu l-ħajja tagħna. Imma hemm mumenti fl-Evanġelju fejn Ġesù jistaqsi, jagħmel hu l-mistoqsijiet. Kien hemm min ġabar dawn il-mistoqsijiet li għamel Ġesù – hemm iktar minn mija. U donnu mindu kien żgħir kien jagħmel dan, għax fl-Evanġelju skont San Luqa, fit-tieni kapitlu, hemm dak ir-rakkont meta Ġesù baqa’ fit-tempju, u marru Marija u Ġużeppi jfittxuh, u l-Evanġelju jgħid li sabuh fost l-għalliema, “jismagħhom u jistaqsihom” (Lq 2:46)… Read more »

When what is hidden is revealed – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass in memory of the martyred saints St Andrew Kim Taegon and St Paul Chong Hasang

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Ix-xbieha li juża Ġesù fl-Evanġelju llum żgur mhijiex diffiċli biex nifhmuha. Hu l-musbieħ, u Ġesù qed jgħid li l-iskop tal-musbieħ hu li jdawwal. Mela int ma tqegħdux f’xi post moħbi, jew tgħattih, imma f’post prominenti biex jista’ jagħti d-dawl lill-kamra jew il-post fejn tkun.

X’irid jurina Ġesù b’din ix-xbieha? Hi l-kelma ta’ Alla li għandha tkun dawl għal ħajjitna… Read more »

Serving in the Spirit of Christ – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass marking the end of the pastoral year of the centre

  Seminary Vocations Centre, Tal-Virtù

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Kemm tiddejjaq meta ma jifhmukx, speċjalment jekk ikunu ħbieb ta’ ġewwa. Tħoss għafsa ta’ qalb! Hekk ġralu Ġesù fil-ġrajja li smajna fl-Evanġelju.

Imma iktar u iktar kienet iebsa għal Ġesù meta hu ntebaħ li mhux biss ma fehmuhx – meta kien qed jitkellem fuq li se jbati, joqtluh u mbagħad iqum mill-mewt – imma li bejniethom, waqt li hu kien qed jitkellem fuq dan, huma kienu qed jitkellmu fuq xi ħaġa eżatt il-kontra… Read more »

Solidarity with those who are vulnerable, weak and dependent – Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi

Mass organised by LifeNetwork in memory of the victims of abortion all over the world

The Chapel of the Annunciation, Rabat

Homily by Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi

When a new human life starts, it cannot be seen. There are a few cells in the womb. These cells do not only have the potential of life, but they are, in fact, a human life that has started. Over time, these cells increase and continue growing. A new human life is developing, even though it is still unseen… Read more »

Whoever wants to be a leader must be a servant – The Archbishop

Mass on the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Chapel of St Sebastian, Ħal Qormi

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Għat-tieni darba Ġesù jkellem lid-dixxipli tiegħu dwar il-persekuzzjoni li kellu jgħaddi minnha u juża kliem li jħawwadhom lid-dixxipli: “Bin il-bniedem se jingħata f’idejn il-bnedmin u joqtluh; u meta jkun maqtul, wara tlitt ijiem iqum mill-mewt” (Mk 9:31). Din il-ħaġa tħassibhom, ma fehmux dan il-kliem. Għaliex Profeta li kien qed jgħaddi mil-Lhudija għall-Galililija jgħallem, ifejjaq, ikeċċi x-xjaten, jitkellem dwar il-maħfra, dwar it-tjubija, il-ħlewwa u l-ħniena – kellu jingħata f’idejn il-bnedmin u joqtluh? … Read more »

The Sunday Gospel: 19th September

Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings of the day

First Reading: Wisdom 2, 12.17-20
Psalm: 53 (54), 3-4.5.6.8
Second Reading: James 3, 16 – 4, 3

Gospel: Mk 9, 30-37

In those days, Jesus and his disciples went on from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.” But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him.

Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest.

He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.” Read more »
