Archbishop issues Fr David Muscat with formal warning

Archbishop Charles Scicluna has issued Fr David Muscat with a formal warning, referred to in Canon Law as a penal precept, instructing the priest to cease making inflammatory and hurtful comments in public forums or face prohibition from exercising his ministry in public.

The Archbishop instructed Fr David Muscat to delete a Facebook post, in which the priest claimed that being gay was worse than being possessed, and not to use insulting or hurtful language against any group or individual… Read more »

“I ask for your forgiveness” – The Archbishop

Homily by Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna

I was struck by the final expression in this beautiful Gospel in which Jesus proclaims his programme: ‘All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.’ (Luke 4:22). Jesus’ style, as Pope Francis often reminds us, is not the style of those who hurl stones. Jesus’ gracious words may at times correct and warn, however, they never lack love… Read more »

Words without deeds are empty – The Archbishop

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

F’dan l-Evanġelju, fis-silta mill-kapitlu 6 ta’ San Mark, turina ftit, qisha x-ray tal-qalb ta’ Ġesù. Jitħassar il-folla li jara quddiemu, din il-kotra, “għax kienu qishom nagħaġ bla ma għandhom ragħaj” (Mk 6:34). Hu jagħti ħajtu, il-ħin tiegħu u l-imħabba tiegħu billi jgħallimhom ħafna ħwejjeġ.

L-ewwel risposta ta’ Ġesù hu t-tagħlim. Aħna għandna dover qawwi li nwasslu t-tagħlim ta’ Ġesù lil kull min lest li jisimgħu… Read more »

Blessed be the name of Jesus – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Tawh l-isem ta’ Ġesù”. Hekk qrajna fl-Evanġelju skont San Luqa, u dan ifakkarna f’dak li l-anġlu Gabrijel kien qal lil Marija: “Ara int se tnissel fil-ġuf, u jkollok iben, u ssemmih Ġesù” (Lq 1:31). L-istess kien qal ukoll l-anġlu Gabrijel lil Ġużeppi, meta qallu: “Hi se jkollha iben, u inti ssemmih Ġesù” (Mt 1:21). Nindunaw għalhekk li l-isem ta’ Ġesù ma kienx magħżul la minn Marija u lanqas minn Ġużeppi, imma kien magħżul minn Alla… Read more »

Mass on the Solemnity of the Epiphany

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Il-ġnus kollha tal-art jagħtuk qima, Mulej”. Dan hu li tlabna fis-Salm, u dan il-vers jispjega tajjeb is-solennità tal-Epifanija li qed niċċelebraw illum. Juri kif Ġesù mwieled, Alla li sar bniedem, ġie għall-ġnus kollha, u wera ruħu bħala s-Salvatur tal-ġnus kollha. Epifanija tfisser li Alla wera lilu nnifsu lill-ġnus kollha. Ġew il-Maġi mil-Lvant ifittxuh biex jagħtuh qima.

Ċirku li dejjem jitwessa’

L-Epifanija hi l-festa tal-aqwa inklużjoni tal-fidi tagħna fi Kristu, għax mill-bidu tinkludi lil kulħadd… Read more »

The Archbishop to the new acolytes: Draw closer to the Lord because he cares for you in your weakness and poverty

Mass on the Solemnity of the Epiphany and the institution of the Acolyte Ministry

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Il-kelma ‘epifanija’ ġejja mill-Grieg u tispjegalna kif f’dan il-jum il-Mulej juri lilu nnifsu lill-ġnus. F’dan il-jum qaddis tal-Epifanija, il-Knisja f’Malta qiegħda tilqa’ tliet żgħażagħ fit-triq tagħhom lejn is-saċerdozju u li llum se jiġu istitwiti ministri akkoliti. Akkoliti huma dawk li f’ċirkustanzi straordinarji għandhom is-setgħa jwasslu t-tqarbin lill-poplu ta’ Alla.

Illum wara l-Evanġelju smajna t-tħabbira sabiħa tal-jum qaddis tal-Għid li dis-sena jaħbat fis-17 ta’ April… Read more »

A recreational choice which builds and provides a new beginning – The Archbishop

Mass on New Year’s Day

The chapel at id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Iż-żgħażagħ tagħna tawna lezzjoni sabiħa llum. Qalulna li biex ikollna l-avventura fil-ħajja, biex insibu t-triq fil-ħajja, biex nimxu wara dawl li ma jgħib qatt; tajjeb inħallu lil Ġesù jkun id-dawl tagħna, Ġesù jkun l-avventura ta’ ħajjitna; Ġesù jkun “it-Triq, il-Veritá u l-Ħajja” (Ġw 14:6).

Ħalli lil Mulej iħares lejk bi ħniena u mħabba u hekk ikollok is-sliem.

Se noffri ħsieb qasir għax il-prietka għamluha ż-żgħażagħ tagħna llum… Read more »

Walking in the light, testifying to the light – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Dak id-dawl veru li jdawwal kull bniedem…” Dan hu li qrajna fl-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann, proprju l-bidu, il-prologu tal-Evanġelju tiegħu, fejn hu jenfasizza ħafna li Ġesù, li sar bniedem fostna, hu d-dawl, u jagħmel dan f’kuntrast mad-dlam. Għandna dan id-dawl sabiħ li għandu jdawwal lil ħajjitna.

Alla li sar bniedem fostna – dak hu li jiċċelebra San Ġwann f’dan l-Evanġelju li naqrawh dejjem fl-aħħar jum tas-sena… Read more »

Gospel: Lk 2, 16-21

In those days, the shephrds went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child; and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.

The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.  … Read more »
