The Diocese of Gozo is in mourning following the death of Mgr N. Cauchi who earlier today, passed to eternal life.  During his episcopate, Bishop Cauchi contributed greatly towards the faith-formation of the people of Malta and Gozo and the building of communion within the Church; he also spread the Church’s social teaching and its application in the local context during the past 40 years. On this sad occasion, as a sign of filial respect and with profound gratitude to Mgr Cauchi, the Bishop of Gozo, Mgr. Mario Grech calls upon the Church to offer prayers for the repose of his soul.

The Archdiocese of Malta joins the diocese of Gozo in expressing its sadness for the loss of Bishop Emeritus Cauchi.  While acknowledging that the people of Malta and Gozo have greatly benefited from Mgr Cauchi’s teaching, the Archbishop of Malta, Mgr Paul Cremona OP, wishes to convey his condolences to Bishop Mario Grech and to the Gozitan people. He also invites members of the clergy, religious communities, and the laity in Malta to offer prayers for the repose of the soul of Bishop Emeritus Cauchi.
