Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Malta Foundation invites the public to an upcoming seminar titled “AI: A Blessing or a Curse?”. The event will be held on Thursday, 9th of May 2024 at 6:30 pm at Dar il-Ħanin Samaritan in Santa Venera. This thought-provoking event will bring together leading scholars and practitioners in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to discuss the profound impact of AI on society.

In an era where AI technology permeates every aspect of our lives, from healthcare and finance to transportation and entertainment, the seminar will delve into AI’s prevalence on humanity and ponders whether this is a curse or indeed a blessing.

Attendees can expect insightful discussions and diverse perspectives from our speakers who are at the forefront of AI research and implementation and ethics. The seminar aims to foster a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges presented by AI.

The goal is to stimulate critical dialogue and reflection on how we can harness the potential of AI for the greater good while mitigating its risks. The seminar is open to professionals, academics, students, business leaders and anyone interested in the future of AI and its implications for society.

Info about the main speakers

Rev. Dr Jean Gové

Fr Jean Gové’s research—in philosophy of mind and language—focuses on the relationship between thought, reference, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. Rev. Dr Gové is a diocesan priest from the Archdiocese of Malta and has recently completed his PhD in philosophy at the University of St Andrews, where he also studied for his masters. He received his Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the University of Malta, and he has also studied, as a visiting researcher, at the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome) and at the Ecole Normale Superieure, (Paris). He has regularly guest-lectured at the Department of AI, University of Malta, and at St Mary’s University, Twickenham.

Prof. Alexiei Dingli

Prof. Alexiei Dingli is an AI expert and Professor at the University of Malta. With over 20 years of experience in the field, he has helped numerous companies successfully implement AI solutions. His work has been recognized as world-class by international experts, and he has received numerous awards from organizations such as the European Space Agency, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and the United Nations. In addition to his considerable peer-reviewed publications, he is also a member of the Malta.AI task force, working to position Malta as a global leader in AI.
