Scimus Christum surrexisse a mortuis vere: tu nobis, victor Rex, miserere.
‘Aħna nafu li Kristu qam mill-mewt, verament. Inti, o Sultan Rebbieħ, ħenn għalina.’ Din hija t-talba li kantajna qabel l-Evanġelju fis-sekwenza tal-Għid illum. Poeżija straordinarjament sabiħa u antika, mużika tassew anġelika li tiġbor fiha l-fidi li qegħdin niċċelebraw illum: miet u fit-tielet jum qam mill-imwiet. Qegħdin niċċelebraw din il-fidi, il-pedament tal-ħajja tagħna, tal-għażliet tagħna, it-tama ta’ min imut fil-Mulej, it-tama tad-destin ta’ kull wieħed u waħda minna.
Scimus Christum surrexisse a mortuis vere: tu nobis, victor Rex, miserere.
We know that Christ rose truly from the dead, and you, O Victorious King, have mercy on us. Today, as we repeat this sacred, ancient, poetic text of the sequence at Easter, we renew our faith in the risen Lord. We know through faith that He is truly risen, that He reigns as King of love and mercy, and we turn to Him asking forgiveness and the gift of peace.
The world is engaged in hubris, in pride, in arrogance, in violence, in war, but his Easter greeting remains important and always timely: peace be with you, peace in our hearts, peace among ourselves, peace in the world. This is the prayer that we heartfully engage with on this blessed Easter morning. We know that he rose from the dead, truly rose from the dead, and we turn to him, the Victorious King, the King, who won over evil, sin and death, and we ask for mercy, we ask for peace.
