Archbishop Charles Scicluna has appointed Fr Jean-Claude Schembri as the new Principal of the Archbishop’s Minor Seminary School in Tal-Virtù, Rabat. He succeeds Fr Mark Ellul, who has been appointed as the new Delegate for Catholic Education after serving as headmaster of the Minor Seminary School for 13 years.

The Archbishop’s Minor Seminary currently educates 800 students, providing education from the first year of primary to Year 11 of secondary school, and employs approximately 200 staff members.

As Principal, Fr Jean-Claude Schembri will be responsible for developing, promoting and upholding the Seminary’s ethos, character, and Catholic identity. His mission is to ensure that students receive a holistic education, equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to contribute meaningfully to society. The entire school community plays a vital role in ensuring that students are also formed in Gospel-inspired values.

Fr Jean-Claude Schembri was born on 30 June 1995. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Faculty of Theology, University of Malta, where he obtained a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Licentiate in Theology.

He was ordained a priest on 8 May 2021 and has since taken on various pastoral roles, including Vice-Archpriest at the Parish of St Nicholas in Siġġiewi, Assistant Director of the Vocations Centre and Chaplain of the Archbishop’s Minor Seminary and Director of the Maltese Altar Servers.
