Pope at Mass in Monaco: You are called to bear witness to living in peace

Holy Mass, Apostolic Journey of Pope Leo XIV to the Principality of Monaco

  Louis II Stadium

Homily of Pope Leo XIV

Dear brothers and sisters,

The Gospel we have heard (cf. Jn 11:45–57) recounts the cruel sentence issued against Jesus; it tells us of the day when the members of the Sanhedrin “planned to put him to death” (v. 53).  Why does this happen to him?  It is because he raised Lazarus from the dead, restoring life to his friend, at whose tomb he had wept, sharing in the grief of Martha and Mary… Read more »

Watch: The Beginning of Holy Week – Palm Sunday

Mal-merħba bil-friegħi tal-palm, nagħtu wkoll merħba lill-Ġimgħa Mqaddsa hekk kif nibdew interrqu flimkien bħala Knisja waħda lejn l-Għid il-Kbir. Xi jfisser il-ġest tat-tixjir tal-palm? Xi tfisser l-Osanna?

Read more »

A mother who remains motionless – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Kien hemm wieqfa, ħdejn is-salib ta’ Ġesù, ommu” (Ġw 19:25). Illum nitfgħu ħaristna fuq Marija. Mhijiex qiegħda fil-ferħ ta’ Betlehem, u lanqas fil-glorja tal-Qawmien, imma fid-dell tas-Salib. It-tifkira ta’ Marija Addolorata tqiegħed quddiem għajnejna omm li tbati tara lil binha msallab u maqtul – tbati fis-skiet, b’qawwa, u b’fedeltà.

Hi tibqa’ wieqfa. Ma taħrabx, ma titlaqx. Tibqa’ hemm. Fuq il-Kalvarju, Marija tgħix dak li ħafna minna nibżgħu minnu: it-tbatija ta’ dawk li nħobbu, is-skiet apparenti ta’ Alla, id-dlam li donnu m’għandux tmiem… Read more »

From Our Lady, we learn not to escape suffering but to turn it into love – The Archbishop

Mass on the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows

The Church of Our Lady of Jesus (Ta' Ġieżu), Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġimgħa qabel il-Ġimgħa l-Kbira nisimgħu din is-silta mill-Evanġelju ta’ San Ġwann. Id-dixxiplu ħadha għandu. Id-dixxiplu laqa’ lill-mamà ta’ Ġesù fid-dar tiegħu, u l-impenn li jieħu ħsiebha bħala ommu. Dan kien wieħed mit-testmenti ta’ Ġesù minn fuq is-salib. Idur lejn ommu u jafdaha f’idejn id-dixxiplu l-maħbub. “Mara, hawn hu ibnek” (Ġw 19:26). Imma lid-dixxiplu l-maħbub jgħidlu “Hawn hi ommok” (Ġw 19:27)… Read more »
