The Gospel of the day: 22nd January

Readings of the day

First Reading: Acts 28:1-10
Psalm: 15:1-2,5,7-8,11

Gospel: Mt 25:31-40

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left.

Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’”

The Gospel of the day: 21st January

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Samuel 17:32-33,37,40-51
Psalm: 143 (144):1,2,9-10

Gospel: Mark 3:1-6

In those days, Jesus entered the synagogue, and a man was there who had a withered hand. They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. And he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come forward.” Then he said to them, “Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

He looked around at them with anger; he was grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.

“Ecumenism is not about making us all the same, but about coming closer to one another” – Mons. Hector Scerri

Photo: Miguela Xuereb

B’rabta ma’ Nsara minn knejjes differenti, Mons. Hector Scerri sostna fuq l-importanza li dak li nistgħu nagħmlu flimkien, nagħmluh flimkien, kif ukoll li l-għaqda u l-ekumeniżmu ma jfissrux li nkunu kollha l-istess, imma li nersqu lejn xulxin – “Unità ma tfissirx uniformità. Ma jfissirx li Ortodoss isir Kattoliku jew li Anglikan isir Kattoliku. Dik idea antika. Dak mhux ekumeniżmu”.

Waqt li kien qed jitkellem fuq il-programm Il-Papa Ljun XIV fuq RTK103 preżentat minn Luke Vella, Mons… Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Psalm: 88 (89):20,21-22,27-28

Gospel: Mark 2:23-28

In those days, one Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”

And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the Sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
