Pope at Angelus: No armed victory can compensate for the pain of mothers, the fear of children or stolen futures

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

  St Peter's Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

Today, in many countries, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi, is being celebrated, and the Gospel recounts the miracle of the loaves and fishes (cf. Lk 9:11-17).

In order to feed the thousands of people who came to listen to him and to ask for healing, Jesus invited the Apostles to bring him what little they had; he then blessed the loaves and fishes, and told them to distribute them to everyone… Read more »

Pope at Corpus: Blessed are those who become witnesses of His love

Mass on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

St John Lateran Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, it is wonderful to be in the presence of Jesus. The Gospel passage we just heard attests to this; it recounts how the crowds spent long hours listening to him speak about the Kingdom of God and seeing him heal the sick (cf. Lk 9:11). Jesus’ compassion for the suffering shows us the loving closeness of God, who comes into our world to save us… Read more »

“U kulħadd kiel u xeba’ u l-bċejjeċ tal-ħobż li kien fadal ġabruhom fi tnax-il qoffa” (Lq 9:17). Aħna qegħdin nagħmlu festa lil Ewkaristija tal-Mulej, l-ikel li jimla’ l-qalb tagħna bil-paċi u l-ferħ, li jagħtina tassew risposta għall-ġuħ kbir li hemm fil-qalb tagħna għall-imħabba, għall-għatx kbir li hemm fil-qalb ta’ kull wieħed u waħda minna għall-paċi u l-hena tassew. “Kulħadd kiel u xeba’” (Lq 9:17)… Read more »

Psalm: 109 (110):1,2,3,4
Second Reading: 1 Cor 11:23-26

Gospel: Lk 9:11b-17

Jesus spoke to the crowds about the kingdom of God, and he healed those who needed to be cured. As the day was drawing to a close, the Twelve approached him and said, “Dismiss the crowd so that they can go to the surrounding villages and farms and find lodging and provisions; for we are in a deserted place here.”

He said to them, “Give them some food yourselves.” They replied, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have, unless we ourselves go and buy food for all these people.” Now the men there numbered about five thousand… Read more »

Treasure of my heart – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Teżori f’din id-dinja” (Mt 6:19) u “Teżori fis-sema” (Mt 6:20). Dan hu l-kuntrast li jagħmel Ġesù fl-Evanġelju llum, li jibda bil-kelma qawwija “tgeddsux” – “Tgeddsux għalikom teżori f’din id-dinja” (Mt 16:9). X’jiġifieri meta Ġesù jgħid “tgeddsux”? Ma jridniex naħdmu, nirsistu, għalina u għall-familja tagħna? Le, mhux dan qed jgħid Ġesù, anzi lilna jagħtina l-messaġġ li huwa importanti li aħna naħdmu, nirsistu, biex inġibu ’l quddiem il-ħajja tagħna, tal-familja tagħna, u dawk ta’ madwarna… Read more »

The Eucharist is central to every feast – The Archbishop

Mass on the Jubilee of External Feasts

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Dan l-Evanġelju minn San Luqa magħżul għal dawn il-ġranet li fihom niċċelebraw il-festa tal-Ġisem u d-Demm ta’ Ġesù, jispjegalna r-realtà kbira tal-Ewkaristija li hi l-qofol ta’ kull festa li nagħmlu. Meta ssir it-tħabbira tal-Għid fis-6 ta’ Jannar fl-Epifanija, jew inkella fil-Ħadd qrib l-Epifanija bħalma nagħmlu Malta u Għawdex, dakinhar fin-Noveritis jitħabbar l-Għid il-Kbir u hemm din il-frażi kull nhar ta’ Ħadd: il-komunità Nisranija tiltaqa’ biex tiċċelebra l-mewt u l-qawmien tal-Mulej… Read more »
