COMECE calls for long-term peace in Syria: “Christians are an essential part of the country”

H.E. Mgr. Mariano Crociata, President of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), issued a statement on Wednesday, 19 February 2025, expressing deep concern for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria, which persists more than a decade after the outbreak of conflict. Pope Francis had a restful night and ate breakfast this morning

“The Pope spent a restful night, woke up and had breakfast,” the Holy See Press Office shared in a note to journalists on Wednesday morning.

In a Tuesday evening press release, the Holy See Press Office stated the Pope has double pneumonia, but nevertheless “remains in good spirits.”

“Laboratory tests, chest X-rays, and the clinical condition of the Holy Father,” it began, “continue to present a complex picture.”

The statement added that the Pope’s “polymicrobial infection, which has arisen in the context of bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis, and has required the use of corticosteroid and antibiotics, makes the therapeutic treatment more complex.”

‘I Have Called You Friends’ – weekend seminar for SDC candidates

From Friday, February 14th, to Sunday, February 16th, 2025, a group of eight candidates in their first two years of formation participated in a weekend seminar titled “I Have Called You Friends” (John 15:15).
