First Reading: Deuteronomy 6:2-6
Psalm: 17:2-3a,3bc-4,47,51ab
Second Reading: Hebrews 7:23-28

Gospel: Mark 12:28b-34

In those days, one of the scribes came near Jesus and asked him, “Which commandment is the first of all?” Jesus answered, “The first is, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Then the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that “he is one, and besides him there is no other’; and “to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength,’ and “to love one’s neighbour as oneself,’—this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” After that no one dared to ask him any question.  Read more »

Mass on All Souls’ Day

Chapel of Our Lady, Mother of Sorrows, Addolorata Cemetery, Paola

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Kemm huma kliem ta’ faraġ, dawn il-kliem li jgħid Ġesù f’kapitlu 6 ta’ San Ġwann. Ikellimna ċar dwar ir-rieda ta’ Alla. Xi jrid Alla? “Ir-rieda ta’ min bagħatni hija din: li jiena ma nitlef xejn minn dak kollu li tani, iżda li nqajmu mill-imwiet fl-aħħar jum” (Ġw 6:39). Fuq min qed jitkellem Ġesù meta jgħid: “dak kollu li tani”? Qed jitkellem fuqna, qed jitkellem fuqi u fuqek… Read more »

First Reading: Job 19:1.23-27a
Psalm: 26
Second Reading: Romans 19:1,23-27a

Gospel: John 6:37-40

In those days Jesus told the crowd: “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes to me I will never drive away; for I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day.”  Read more »

Pope on All Saints’ Day: With the Lord’s help, let’s aspire to holiness

  Saint Peter's Square, Vatican City

During his Angelus address on this Solemnity of All Saints, Pope Francis invites faithful to not see holiness as unattainable, and urges them, like the Saints, to take little steps to live more holy lives.

“Do I ask God, in prayer, for the gift of a holy life? Do I let myself be guided by the good impulses that His Spirit inspires in me? … Read more »

Mass on the Solemnity of All Saints

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Illum qed niċċelebraw ħafna qaddisin; il-kultura tagħna hi kultura sabiħa li tonora lill-qaddisin, il-festi fil-parroċċi tagħna huma eżempju tal-qima tagħna. Kultant nesaġeraw, ikollna nammettu, imma l-iskop li niċċelebraw il-qaddisin huwa skop sabiħ.

llum filwaqt li nagħmlu festa lill-qaddisin kollha, anke dawk il-qaddisin li kultant inġellduhom, illum għandhom festa waħda, tajjeb niftakru din. Kultant aħna nġelldu lill-qaddisin, illum se niftakkru li l-qaddisin jifirħu b’xulxin u jifirħu bil-ħniena u bl-imħabba li Alla kellu għalihom, u jagħtuh glorja… Read more »

Pope on war: “Children and families are the first victims”

“War is always, always, always a defeat.” With these words, Pope Francis prayed once again for an end to war around the world at the close of his General Audience.

Peace is a gift

Speaking to the thousands of people in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope remembered the countries racked with violence: “the martyred Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Myanmar, North Kivu, and many countries in war.” He reiterated that no one wins with war and that “peace is a gift from the Holy Spirit.”

On October 29, the Palestinian Civil Defense reported “770 people were killed in the last 19 days alone.”

“Yesterday I saw that 150 innocent people were shot,” Pope Francis said, “What do children and families have to do with war?” he asked, “They are the first victims.”
