First Reading: Isaiah 60:1-6
Psalm: 71 (72):1-2,7-8,10-11,12-13

In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.” When King Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet: “And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel.’ ”

Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child; and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage.”

When they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage… Read more »

More than “something good” – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Tista’ toħroġ xi ħaġa tajba minn Nażaret?” (Ġw 1:46) Din hija l-mistoqsija li għamel Natanael meta Filippu mar isibu, ikellmu, u jgħidlu: “Sibna lil dak li kitbu fuqu Mosè fil-liġi, u l-profeti fil-kotba tagħhom: Ġesù minn Nażaret” (Ġw 1:45). Kienet reazzjoni immedjata dik ta’ Natanael, li staqsa tistax toħroġ xi ħaġa tajba minn Nażaret.

Ħa nħarsu ftit lejn dawn it-tlieta min-nies li naraw illum fl-Evanġelju – Ġesù, Filippu u Natanael – u naraw dak li nitgħallmu minnhom għall-ħajja tagħna.

L-ewwel nett, Ġesù hu dak li dejjem jieħu l-inizjattiva… Read more »

He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.” Read more »

Pope at Audience – We have to learn how to behave when facing temptations

Paul VI Audience Hall, The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

Last week we introduced the theme of vices and virtues. It refers to the spiritual struggle of the Christian.
