Watch: Malta Church’s Safeguarding Commission concluded 26 cases in 2023

Eight Substantiated cases, half of which are historical

The Safeguarding Commission concluded 26 cases in 2023, 18 concerning minors and eight involving vulnerable adults, Head of Safeguarding Mark Pellicano said.

Speaking at a news conference to review the year, Mr Pellicano said that four of the 18 cases concerning minors were found to be substantiated.

Two of these cases involved complaints of sexual abuse against diocesan priests. One cleric was referred to the civil authorities… Read more »

Pope: ‘Welcome, promote, accompany, and integrate’ refugees

At his weekly General Audience, Pope Francis urges compassion for “all those who are forced to flee their homes in search of peace and security.”

Ahead of the UN’s World Refugee Day, which will be celebrated on the 20th June, Pope Francis has called for called for better treatment for refugees.

Speaking at the end of his weekly General Audience, the Pope called for the World Day to be “an opportunity to turn an attentive and fraternal gaze to all those who are forced to flee their homes in search of peace and security.”

Cardinals set to vote to canonize Carlo Acutis, 14 others

Pope Francis will preside at an Ordinary Public Consistory on July 1, when Cardinals present in Rome are set to give the final go-ahead for the canonization of 15 Blesseds.

On the night of 9-10 July 1860, eight Franciscan friars and three lay Christians of the Maronite rite were martyred in the Franciscan convent in Syria during a Druze uprising against local Christians.

Now, almost 100 years after Pope Pius XI beatified them, Emanuele Ruiz and his companions, including the brothers Francesco, Abdel-Mooti, and Raffaele Massabki, are one step away from sainthood.

Priest and UM academic elected President of the Équipe Européenne de Catéchèse

Rev. Prof. Carl-Mario Sultana, Head of the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law within the Faculty of Theology, has been elected President of the Équipe Européenne de Catéchèse for the next four years.
