The stone set aside – Bishop Galea‑Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Huma riedu kieku jaqbduh taħt idejhom” (Mk 12:12). Dan hu li naqraw fl-Evanġelju skont San Mark fuq ir-reazzjoni tal-qassisin, tal-kittieba u tax-xjuħ tal-poplu għal din il-parabbola li jgħid Ġesù. Hawnhekk Ġesù jgħid parabbola li tfisser, fi ftit kliem, l-Istorja tas-Salvazzjoni – kif Alla bagħat lill-poplu tiegħu diversi nies, il-profeti, imma ħafna minnhom kienu rifjutati mill-poplu. Imbagħad, jgħid Ġesù meta jitkellem fuq is-sid tal-għalqa, fl-aħħar bagħat lil ibnu, imma lil ibnu qatluh u xeħtuh “barra mill-għalqa” (Mk 12:8)… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: “Jesus made a gift of His entire life”

  St Peter's Square, the Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday!

Today, in Italy and in other countries, we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Domini. The Gospel of the liturgy today tells us about the Last Supper (Mk 14:12-26), during which the Lord performs a gesture of handing over: in fact, in the broken bread and in the chalice offered to the disciples, it is He who gives Himself for all humanity, and offers Himself for the life of the world… Read more »

The Secretariat for Catholic Education and the Association of Church Schools (CSA) are calling for a resolution to be reached among all parties involved to conclude negotiations and sign the new collective agreement for educators in both State and Church schools. The appeal comes after recent public comments and media reports, which may hinder the process.

The Secretariat and the CSA are closely monitoring the negotiations between the Government and the Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) and express gratitude for their dedication and efforts… Read more »

The true meaning of prayer is what comes out of the heart not what is said – the Archbishop

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Fejn tridna mmorru nħejju biex tiekol l-ikla tal-Għid” (Mk14:12). Din hi domanda li d-dixxipli jagħmlu lil Ġesù. L-Evanġelju ta’ San Mark jgħidilna li kien l-ewwel jum tal-Ażżmi meta kienu jissagrifikaw il-Ħaruf tal-Għid. U d-dixxipli jagħmlu din id-domanda lill-Mulej: “Fejn tridna mmorru nħejju biex tiekol l-ikla tal-Għid?” (Mk14:12).

L-Evanġelju ta’ San Mark jinsisti li l-kliem ta’ Ġesù: “Ħudu dan huwa Ġismi, dan huwa Demmi, id-demm tal-patt, li jixxerred għal ħafna” (Mk 14:22,24) hu propju kliem li Ġesù qal waqt l-Ikla tal-Għid, waqt l-ikla li tiċċelebra il-ħelsien tal-poplu Lhudi li fih il-Mulej juri l-qawwa tiegħu u sseħħ il-wegħda tal-Mulej li jkun dejjem mal-poplu tiegħu… Read more »

“The Eucharist: A meal for brothers” – The Archbishop

Homily on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Din is-sena ddedikata lill-Evanġelista San Mark, is-silta għal din il-festa, kif inhu xieraq, hi minn dan l-Evanġelju miktub għad-dell tal-appostli Pietru u Pawlu. “Fl-ewwel jum tal-Ażmi meta kienu jissagrifikaw il-ħaruf tal-Għid” (Mk 14:12), il-kuntest li jagħti l-Evanġelista Mark għar-rakkont tal-Ewkaristija hu proprju l-kuntest tal-Għid li hu l-mixja ta’ ħelsien mill-mewt għall-ħajja, mid-dlam għad-dawl. U r-riferiment speċifiku għall-Ħaruf tal-Għid jurina wkoll li din l-ikla li se jħejji l-Mulej hi wkoll tifkira ta’ sagrifiċċju li jġibilna l-ħelsien… Read more »
