Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Samuel 9:1-4,17-19; 10:1a
Psalm: 20 (21):2-3,4-5,6-7

Gospel: Mark 2:13-17

In those days, Jesus went out again beside the sea; the whole crowd gathered around him, and he taught them. As he was walking along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him. And as he sat at dinner in Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were also sitting with Jesus and his disciples—for there were many who followed him.

When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard this, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”

Psalm: 88 (89):16-17,18-19

Gospel: Mark 2:1-12

Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, It was reported that he was at home and many gathered around so that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door; and he was speaking the word to them. Then some people came, bringing to him a paralysed man, carried by four of them. And when they could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and after having dug through it, they let down the mat on which the paralytic lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this fellow speak in this way? … Read more »

The warmth of human care is an important aspect of any therapy – The Archbishop

Archbishop’s speech at the opening of Capua Ward

  St James Hospital, Sliema

Message from Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna

Before we pray, I would like to share a few comments, inspired, also, by what you have told us. This is a symphony of skills, entrepreneurship, but also vision, and this is also a hymn to one of the blessings in our national anthem, this prayer that gives us identity. Dun Karm, in 1922, asked for this blessing from the Lord: ‘saħħa’ – ‘health’.   … Read more »

What does the Gospel tell us about it? Let us look at Jesus. His first miracle, at the wedding at Cana, reveals His sympathy towards human joys: He is concerned that the feast should end well and gives the bride and groom a large quantity of very good wine… Read more »
