Pope at Audience – Without the Holy Spirit, all zeal is vain and falsely apostolic

Paul VI Audience Hall, The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters,

In the last catecheses we saw that the proclamation of the Gospel is joy, it is for everyone, and it is addressed to today. Now let us discover a final essential characteristic: it is necessary that the proclamation takes place in the Holy Spirit. Indeed, to “communicate God”, the joyful credibility of the testimony, the universality of the proclamation and the timeliness of the message are not enough… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 7th December

Readings of the day

First Reading: Isaiah 26, 1-6
Psalm: 117 (118):1 & 8-9,19-21,25-27a

Gospel: Matthew 7:21,24-27

In those days, Jesus told his disciples: “Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!”

I am not worthy – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Ma jistħoqqlix li tidħol taħt is-saqaf tiegħi” (Mt 8:8). Dan hu l-kliem li ċ-ċenturjun jgħid lil Ġesù, u ninnutaw mal-ewwel li jixbaħ ħafna l-kliem li aħna ngħidu fil-quddiesa, propju qabel it-tqarbin. Aħna ħadnieh, naturalment, mill-kliem miċ-ċenturjun, u ngħidu: “Mulej, ma jistħoqqlix li tidħol taħt is-saqaf tiegħi”. Iċ-ċenturjun qal hekk lil Ġesù għax ma ħassux denn li Ġesù jmur id-dar – għalhekk “taħt is-saqaf” tad-dar tiegħu… Read more »

Eyes open – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  Parish Church, Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Hemm kelma waħda li jgħidha Ġesù fl-Evanġelju llum u jirrepetiha tliet darbiet u li fiha tiġbor il-messaġġ l-aktar importanti fil-kelma ta’ Alla llum. Ġesu jgħid: “ishru” (Mk 13:33.35.37).

Xi tfisser tishar? Aħna l-kelma “sahra” nużawha l-aktar għal min jaħdem iktar milli hu normalment mitlub minnu fix-xogħol tiegħu, min jagħmel overtime. Imma l-kelma “ishru” hawn għandha tifsira partikulari, li hi t-tifsira li Ġesù stess jagħti meta jgħid: “Kunu għajnejkom miftuħa” (Mk 13:33)… Read more »

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Kif għidtilkom fil-bidu, b’dan l-Evanġelju qed nibdew nisimgħu b’wieħed mill-erba’ ħbieb tagħna, li tawna Evanġelju, Aħbar it-Tajba. Dawn l-erbat iħbieb huma: Mattew, Mark, Luqa u Ġwanni. Dawk li aħna ngħidulhom evanġelisti, għax tawna l-Aħbar it-Tajba, tawna l-Evanġelju ta’ Ġesù. Din is-sena bdejna naqraw siltiet mill-Evanġelju tal-ħabib tagħna San Mark. Is-simbolu ta’ San Mark hu ljun bil-ġwienaħ. Peress li San Mark kiteb evanġelju qasir, l-iqsar wieħed, allura matul din is-sena wkoll nisimgħu siltiet mill-ħabib l-ieħor tagħna, Ġwanni l-Evanġelista… Read more »
