The Gospel of the day: 14th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Genesis 46:1-7,28-30
Psalm: 36 (37):3-4,18-19,27-28,39-40

Gospel: Matthew 10:16-23

In those days, Jesus told his apostles: “See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of them, for they will hand you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues; and you will be dragged before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them and the Gentiles. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you at that time; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all because of my name… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 13th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Genesis 44:18-21,23b-29; 45:1-5
Psalm: 104 (105):16-17,18-19,20-21

Gospel: Matthew 10:7-15

In those days, Jesus told his apostles, “As you go, proclaim the good news, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment. Take no gold, or silver, or copper in your belts, no bag for your journey, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for laborers deserve their food.

Whatever town or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you leave. As you enter the house, greet it. If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town.

Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgement than for that town.

He gazed upon him with compassion and He chose him – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  Parish Church, Attard

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Hemm pittura sabiħa ta’ Caravaggio li qiegħda fi knisja f’Ruma – il-knisja ta’ San Luigi dei Francesi. Qiegħda f’kappella fejn fil-fatt hemm tliet pitturi dwar San Mattew. Waħda minnhom hi s-sejħa ta’ Mattew, u tesprimi b’mod sabiħ ħafna dak li smajna fl-Evanġelju llum.

Is-sejħa ta’ Ġesù

Mattew qiegħed bilqiegħda flimkien ma’ erba’ oħra, madwar mejda li fuqha hemm il-flus, u tnejn minnhom qed iħarsu lejn il-flus u jibqgħu jħarsu lejn il-flus… Read more »

The study ‘Minimum Essential Budget for a Decent Living’ presented by Caritas Malta

A couple with two children needs more than €700 a month to buy food and other essential products, a study by Caritas found.

Conducted by Caritas and nine university students, the study examined the price of food and essential goods.

The methodology of this study was based on an evaluation of prices of goods at two supermarkets in the Central and South of Malta, a supermarket in Gozo, two minimarkets in the North of Malta, three vans selling produce – one in the South, another in the Centre, and one in Gozo – a mini-market selling vegetables and fruit in the North, and the farmer’s market in Ta’ Qali… Read more »
