Gospel: Luke 7:19-23

In those days, John summoned two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?” When the men had come to him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?’ ”

Jesus had just then cured many people of diseases, plagues, and evil spirits, and had given sight to many who were blind. And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news brought to them… Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: Zephaniah 3:1-2,9-13
Psalm: 33 (34):2-3,6-7,17-18,19 & 23

Gospel: Matthew 21:28-32

In those days, Jesus told the chief priests and elders of the people: “What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, “Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ He answered, “I will not’; but later he changed his mind and went. The father went to the second and said the same; and he answered, “I go, sir’; but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.”

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and even after you saw it, you did not change your minds and believe him.

The sincerity of the heart – Bishop Galea-Curmi

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Ma nafux” (Mt 21:27). Din kienet ir-risposta tal-qassisin il-kbar u x-xjuħ tal-poplu għall-mistoqsija li għamel Ġesù, li ma kinitx tidher mistoqsija diffiċli. Staqsiehom: “Il-magħmudija ta’ Ġwanni minn fejn kienet ġejja, mis-sema jew mill-bnedmin?” (Mt 21:25). Huma weġbuh: “ma nafux”.

Aħna nafu li din ma kinetx tweġiba sinċiera. Fil-fatt l-Evanġelju jgħid li meta Ġesù staqsiehom, qagħdu jirraġunaw bejniethom x’se tkun ir-reazzjoni tiegħu jew tan-nies jekk iweġbuh mod jew mod ieħor… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Instead of thinking about gifts, we can give words and gestures of consolation to those who are wounded

Dear brothers and sisters, blessed Sunday!

The Gospel of this third Sunday of Advent speaks to us about John the Baptist who, while in prison, sends his disciples to ask Jesus: “Are you he who is to come, or shall we look for another?” (Mt 11:4). Indeed, John, hearing of Jesus’ works, is seized with doubt as to whether He is really the Messiah or not… Read more »

Our Lady of Guadalupe – Feast
Readings of the day

First Reading: Numbers 24:2-7,15-17a
Psalm: 24 (25):4bc-5ab,6-7bc,8-9

Gospel: Matthew 21:23-27

In those days, Jesus entered the temple, and as he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”

Jesus said to them, “I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, “From heaven,’ he will say to us, “Why then did you not believe him?’ But if we say, “Of human origin,’ we are afraid of the crowd; for all regard John as a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.  Read more »

Not a reed that sways in the wind – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass organised by Ta' Kana Movement and GRUFAN

  Saint John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Xi ħriġtu taraw fid-deżert? Qasba tixxejjer mar-riħ?” (Mt 11:7) Dan hu l-kliem li jgħid illum Ġesù fl-Evanġelju, hu u jitkellem fuq Ġwanni l-Battista. Qed jitkellem fuq bniedem li spiċċa l-ħabs minħabba li wassal il-kelma ta’ Alla bi tħejjija għall-miġja tal-Messija, bniedem li kien prekursur ta’ Ġesù mhux biss fil-ħajja imma wkoll fil-mewt tiegħu.

Do we know who Jesus is? – The Archbishop

Mass on the third Advent Sunday

The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Ħal Għaxaq

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġwanni jibgħat domanda li hi attwali ħafna, jibgħat tnejn mid-dixxipli tiegħu għax ma setax imur hu, qiegħed fil-ħabs u lil Ġesù jagħmillu din il-mistoqija: “Inti huwa dak li għandu jiġi jew nistennew lil ħaddieħor? (Mt 11:2).

Din il-mistoqsija toqgħod ħafna f’dan iż-żmien tal-Avvent li smajna kemm-il darba hu żmien ta’ stennija. Ta’ min nistaqsu lilna nfusna: aħna lil min qed nistennnew? … Read more »

In those few cells there’s the being of each and every one of us – Archbishop

  Immaculate Conception Parish Church, Ħamrun

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

It-tislima tal-anġlu hija tislima li toħroġ mill-qalb tagħna f’dan il-jum għażiż tat-8 ta’ Diċembru, il-festa tat-Tnissil Bla Tebgħa ta’ Marija. “Sliem għalik, mimlija bil-grazzja, il-Mulej miegħek” (Lq 1,28). L-Evanġelju li għadna kemm smajna jitkellem dwar it-tnissil ta’ Iben Marija fil-ġuf tagħha. U bħala sinjal tal-qawwa ta’ Alla, l-anġlu Gabrijel, li ismu stess ifisser ‘il-Qawwa ta’ Alla’, Gabrijel, jagħtiha wkoll tnissil ieħor: it-tnissil ta’ Ġwanni fil-ġuf ta’ ommu… Read more »
