Blessed be the name of Jesus – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Tawh l-isem ta’ Ġesù”. Hekk qrajna fl-Evanġelju skont San Luqa, u dan ifakkarna f’dak li l-anġlu Gabrijel kien qal lil Marija: “Ara int se tnissel fil-ġuf, u jkollok iben, u ssemmih Ġesù” (Lq 1:31). L-istess kien qal ukoll l-anġlu Gabrijel lil Ġużeppi, meta qallu: “Hi se jkollha iben, u inti ssemmih Ġesù” (Mt 1:21). Nindunaw għalhekk li l-isem ta’ Ġesù ma kienx magħżul la minn Marija u lanqas minn Ġużeppi, imma kien magħżul minn Alla… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 4th January

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Jn 4, 7-10
Psalm: 71 (72), 2.3-4ab.7-8

Gospel: Mk 6, 34-44

In those days, as Jesus went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

When it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is now very late; send them away so that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy something for themselves to eat.” But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “Are we to go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?” And he said to them, “How many loaves have you? … Read more »

Pope at Angelus: the Lord does not withdraw when faced with our frailties

  The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

Today’s Liturgy offers us a beautiful phrase, that we always pray in the Angelus and which by itself reveals to us the meaning of Christmas. It says, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (Jn 1:14). The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. These words, if we think about it, contain a paradox… Read more »

Mass on the Solemnity of the Epiphany

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Il-ġnus kollha tal-art jagħtuk qima, Mulej”. Dan hu li tlabna fis-Salm, u dan il-vers jispjega tajjeb is-solennità tal-Epifanija li qed niċċelebraw illum. Juri kif Ġesù mwieled, Alla li sar bniedem, ġie għall-ġnus kollha, u wera ruħu bħala s-Salvatur tal-ġnus kollha. Epifanija tfisser li Alla wera lilu nnifsu lill-ġnus kollha. Ġew il-Maġi mil-Lvant ifittxuh biex jagħtuh qima.

Ċirku li dejjem jitwessa’

L-Epifanija hi l-festa tal-aqwa inklużjoni tal-fidi tagħna fi Kristu, għax mill-bidu tinkludi lil kulħadd… Read more »

Glorifying and praising the Lord – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on New Year’s Day

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Hemm dettall fl-Evanġelju skont San Luqa dwar ir-ragħajja li nixtieqkom tinnutaw. Jgħid l-Evanġelju li r-ragħajja, wara li raw lit-tarbija Ġesù flimkien ma’ ommu Marija u Ġużeppi, reġgħu lura “isebbħu u jfaħħru lil Alla” għal dik l-esperjenza sabiħa li kellhom. Kienet żgur dehra sabiħa ta’ dawn ir-ragħajja, imdorrijin f’ħajja pjuttost iebsa mal-merħla, li n-nies jarawhom isebbħu u jfaħħru lil Alla.

Dan kien ukoll dak li kienu semgħu r-ragħajja stess meta dehrilhom l-anġlu u ħabbrilhom li twieled Ġesù, u għadd kbir ta’ anġli flimkien bdew ifaħħru lil Alla u jgħidu: “Glorja lil Alla fl-ogħla tas-smewwiet”… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 3rd January

Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Jn 3, 22 – 4, 6
Psalm: 2, 7-8.10-11

Gospel: Mt 4, 12-17. 23-25

In those days, when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali, on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.” From that time Jesus began to proclaim, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought to him all the sick, those who were afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he cured them. And great crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan… Read more »
