Clearing the Clutter

If you have ever been in a cave, you’d know that it is not the most enjoyable place to be – the darkness, the insects, the dust, the trash, the dirt. Entering caves is an adventure in itself and not an experience that just about anyone would jump to.

My heart is sometimes the same, filled with the remnants of what was once alive, memories that are rotting in the corners, and undealt with trash lying around… Read more »

Christmas Message by Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna

Message by Archbishop Charles Jude Scicluna

This year I wished to deliver my message for this holy, Christmas season from a church that is small but very dear to us Maltese and Gozitans. This is the church we refer to as the Greek Church which is in Archbishop’s Street, Valletta, and which is not far, actually just a few paces away, from the Grandmaster’s Palace, the official seat of the President of the Republic… Read more »

The procession of baby Jesus will be returning this year after a two-year hiatus caused by Covid-19. The tradition is celebrated on Christmas Eve, and has its roots in the MUSEUM society.

Precursor of Christ – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Mela x’għad ikun dan it-tifel?” (Lq 1:66) Din kienet ir-reazzjoni tan-nies meta semgħu li twieled Ġwanni l-Battista. Kienet din ir-reazzjoni, għaliex huma kienu jafu li Eliżabetta u Żakkarija kienu kbar fl-età, u Eliżabetta ma setax ikollha tfal. U għalhekk kienet diġà xi ħaġa ta’ stagħġib li twieled tifel. Imma, barra minn hekk, anke kif din saret. Żakkarija, meta rċieva l-messaġġ mill-anġlu Gabriel, f’mument minnhom ma baqax jitkellem; u meta twieled dat-tifel, Żakkarija beda jitkellem u jfaħħar lil Alla.

“X’għad ikun dan it-tifel?” Din kienet ir-reazzjoni, u fil-fatt kellhom raġun jaħsbu hekk għax dan kien tifel speċjali… Read more »

In front of the crib, in front of the cradle in Betlehem, what will be our behaviour? – Archbishop

  Dar tal-Kleru, Birkirkara

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Din it-talba sabiħa li aħna nitolbu kull filgħaxija, it-talba tal-Magnificat, tiġbor fiha l-ispirtu qaddis ta’ dawn il-jiem: “Il-ħniena tiegħu tinfirex f’kull żmien fuq dawk li jibżgħu minnu” (Lq 1:20).

Aħna nixtiequ nirringrazzjaw lil Alla tal-ħniena kbira tiegħu li “ħares lejn iċ-ċokon tal-qaddejja tiegħu” (Lq 1:48), mhux biss lejn Marija imma lejn kull wieħed u waħda minna, ħares lejn iċ-ċokon tagħna… Read more »

Psalm: 88 (89):2-3,4-5,27 & 29

Gospel: Luke 1:67-79

In those days, Zechariah, John’s father, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old, that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us; to perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant, the oath which he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.  … Read more »
