The power of the sign of the cross – The Archbishop

Mass on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

The Church of St Mary of Jesus, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Huwa Ġesù stess li jqabbel lilu nnifsu mas-serp tal-bronż, li Mosè refa’ fid-deżert biex ikun sinjal ta’ fejqan għall-poplu kollu. “Kif Mosè refa’ s-serp fid-deżert, hekk jeħtieġ li jkun merfugħ Bin il-Bniedem” (Ġw 3:14). Illum, fil-festa tal-Eżaltazzjoni tas-Salib, naqraw dan l-Evanġelju. Il-kelma ‘eżaltazzjoni’ tfisser ‘irfigħ’, jiġifieri li tintrefa’ ’l fuq. Nużawha wkoll għall-glorja ta’ xi ħadd. Ġesù jgħaqqad l-glorja tiegħu, l-eżaltazzjoni tiegħu, proprju mat-tislib tiegħu fuq l-Għuda… Read more »

Gospel: John 3:13-17

In those days, Jesus told Nicodemus: “No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”  Read more »

Indifference that kills

The Justice and Peace Commission urges Malta’s authorities and politicians to prioritise the saving of lives and refrain from using language that fans the flames of indifference following the unnecessary death of a four-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in Malta’s Search and Rescue Area.

The young girl, Loujin, died because action by the competent authorities to save the lives of 60 people stranded at sea — who had left Lebanon 10 days earlier — came too late… Read more »

A word that heals – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Iżda int ordna b’kelma, u l-qaddej tiegħi jfiq” (Lq 6:8). Dan kien il-messaġġ li ċ-ċenturjun bagħat ma’ xi ħbieb tiegħu lil Ġesù. Ftit qabel, kien bagħat ukoll lil xi nies biex lil Ġesù jgħidulu li għandu l-qaddej, li qiegħed ħażin ħafna, u jitolbuh biex imur id-dar biex ifejqu. U Ġesù beda miexi lejn id-dar taċ-ċenturjun. Imma meta kien mhux wisq ’il bogħod, iċ-ċenturjun bagħat xi nies oħra biex jgħidulu: “toqgħodx tinqala’, għax ma jistħoqqlix li tidħol taħt is-saqaf tiegħi… iżda int ordna b’kelma, u l-qaddej tiegħi jfiq” (Lq 6:6.8)… Read more »
