The love that Paul taught us is built on our encounter with Jesus – the Archbishop

Mass on the solemnity of St Paul's Shipwreck

The Collegiate of St Paul's Shipwreck, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Fit-talba ta’ din il-festa għażiża, illum tlabna hekk bħala Maltin u Għawdxin: ‘Inti għoġbok, Mulej, li l-Appostlu Missierna San Pawl jara l-għarqa biex jiġi fostna u jxandrilna l-fidi, agħmel li nibqgħu dejjem irroddu ħajr għat-tħabrik u l-imħabba li hu wera magħna’.

Fir-riflessjonijiet tiegħi ta’ din is-sena nixtieq nieqfu ftit fuq il-frażi ‘l-imħabba li Pawlu wera magħna’ għax għan kbir ta’ din il-festa tant għażiża għalina hi propju li rroddu ħajr lil Alla tal-imħabba li wera magħna Pawlu ta’ Tarsu… Read more »

Every cloud has a silver lining – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the eve of the solemnity of St Paul's Shipwreck

The Collegiate of St Paul's Shipwreck, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Bil-Malti għandna espressjoni li tgħid: “Kull deni ħudu b’ġid”. Ma nafx minn liema żmien ilna ngħiduha f’Malta, meta bdiet din l-espressjoni, imma żgur li l-ġrajja tan-Nawfraġju ta’ San Pawl turina proprju dan.

Hawnhekk naraw ġrajja li fil-bidu tagħha, u għal ħafna jiem, kienet ta’ deni kbir; maltempata kbira, tempesta li mhux biss tellfet id-direzzjoni ta’ fejn kienu sejrin – il-ġifen kien sejjer naħa u l-maltempata ġarritu n-naħa l-oħra – imma tant kienet qawwija li, jgħid il-Ktieb tal-Atti tal-Appostli, “tlifna kull tama li nsalvaw”… Read more »

First Reading: Wisdom 14:3-7
Psalm: 107:21-31
Second Reading: Acts 27:16-44; 28:1-10

Gospel: Mark 16:15-20

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptized will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;  they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.  And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it… Read more »
