Anniversary of the Dedication of the Cathedral of Malta – Feast
Readings of the day

First Reading: Kings 8: 22-23. 27-30
Psalm: 83: 3-5, 10-11

Gospel: Lk 19:1-10

In those days, Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich.

He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.”

Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.”  Read more »

Caritas Malta and the Oasi Foundation in response to the Cannabis reform bill

Caritas Malta flimkien mal-Fondazzjoni Oasi, jinsabu ferm konċernati li l-proposta ta’ qafas legali ġdid għall-użu responsabbli tal-kannabis, kif ippreżentata mill-Ministru għar-Riċerka u l-Innovazzjoni Owen Bonnici, fis-6 ta’ Ottubru 2021, tmur oltrè minn dak li ġie ppreżentat fil-White Paper u jikkontempla wkoll id-distribuzzjoni tal-kannabis minn assoċjazzjonijiet għall-użu rikreattiv. Flimkien mal-proposti l-oħra dwar il-pussess u l-kultivazzjoni, dan hu pass ieħor lejn iktar normalizzazzjoni tal-użu tal-kannabis, iżid il-perċezzjoni liż-żgħażagħ li l-kannabis m’għandhiex perikli, u li eventwalment ikompli jiżdied l-użu… Read more »

May you be a caring shepherd, who does all he can for his flock – The Archbishop

Mass on the beginning of the pastoral work of Fr Claudio Borg OP as parish priest of Jesus of Nazareth parish

The Parish Church of Jesus of Nazareth, Tas-Sliema

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Is-silta mill-Ktieb tal-Atti tal-Appostli, li smajna llum fit-Tieni Qari, tfakkarna fix-xirka tal-Appostli. Fil-fatt, San Luqa li kiteb l-ktieb tal-Atti tal-Appostli, jerġa’ jirrepeti l-ismijiet tal-Appostli tal-Mulej. Din id-darba jsemmi ħdax, għaliex Ġuda l-Iskarjota, ma kienx għadu magħhom. “Ilkoll qalb waħda kienu jitolbu flimkien ma’ xi nisa u ma’ Marija, Omm Ġesù u ma’ ħutu.” (Atti 1:14).

Dan il-vers qasir, il-vers 14 tal-ewwel kapitlu tal-Atti tal-Appostli, jippreżentalna x-xirka tad-dixxipli tal-Mulej, li huma magħżula biex jagħmlu dak kollu li hu ordnalhom b’tifkira tiegħu, magħqudin ilkoll f’qalb waħda… Read more »

Pope expresses shame for Church’s failure to confront abuse

  The Vatican

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

Today we are taking up again our reflection on the Letter to the Galatians in which Saint Paul wrote immortal words on Christian freedom. What is Christian freedom? Today, we will reflect on this topic: Christian freedom.

Freedom is a treasure that is truly appreciated only when it is lost. For many of us who are used to being free, it often appears to be an acquired right rather than a gift and a legacy to be preserved… Read more »

The Army guarantees that we remain a civilised country – The Archbishop on the Armed Forces Day

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“M’intix ’il bogħod mis-saltna ta’ Alla” (Mk 12: 34). Ġesù jgħid hekk lil dan l-għaref tal-liġi, dan il-kittieb, li rah kemm kien wieġeb bil-għaqal meta aċċetta l-parir ta’ Ġesù li jekk trid tifhem il-qofol tal-liġi, hemm kelma waħda biss: l-imħabba. “Mgħallem, għandek raġun tgħid li wieħed hemm kmandament u m’hemmx ieħor ħliefu. Iva li tħobb lilu,” lill-Mulej, “b’qalbek kollha, b’moħħok kollu, bil-qawwa tiegħek kollha u tħobb lill-għajrek bħalek innifsek, huwa l-aqwa, aqwa minn kull sagrifiċċju” (Mk 12:32-33)… Read more »
