A generous heart – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Fl-Evanġelju kemm-il darba nsibu lin-nies josservaw lil Ġesù, għajnejhom fih. Kultant insibu wkoll lil Ġesù li qed josserva x’qed jagħmlu n-nies. L-Evanġelju tal-lum hu każ minnhom. Hemm il-ġrajja ta’ meta Ġesù kien biswit it-tempju, iħares u jara lin-nies jitfgħu l-offerta tagħhom fit-teżor. U hemm Ġesù, li jara mhux biss dak li jidher minn barra imma r-realtà kollha. Seta’ jara kif dik l-armla li tefgħet biċċtejn żgħar, l-armla fqira, kienet ħafna aktar ġeneruża mill-għonja li kienu qed jitfgħu l-offerta tagħhom fit-tempju… Read more »

It’s not about what we give but about giving from the heart – The Archbishop

Mass on the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Tha Chapel of Our Lady of Mt Carmel, Siġġiewi Cemetry

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Fi żmien il-profeta Elija s-sinjal tal-grazzja t’Alla kienet ix-xita, u nistgħu ngħidu li l-Mulej berikna wkoll. Qed niftakar meta sar qaddis San Ġorġ Preca; iżjed ma tlabna biex tieqaf ix-xita, iżjed għamlet.

Illum Ġesù jinnota mara armla li meta naqra dan l-Evanġelju, dejjem nikkomwovi ruħi għax nifhem li meta raha, meta nnutaha, Ġesù ħaseb f’ommu li dak iż-żmien kienet armla… Read more »

Use your head – Bishop Galea-Curmi

  St Luke's Hospital Chapel, Tal-Pietà

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Din il-parabbola li Ġesù qal fl-Evanġelju llum turina konċentrazzjoni ta’ ħażen, xibka ta’ ħażen. Għandna d-diżonestà, il-qerq, it-tberbiq ta’ ġid ħaddieħor, l-amministrazzjoni ħażina, il-korruzzjoni, u l-kompliċità. Kienu jeżistu fi żmien Ġesù, għadhom jeżistu wkoll fi żmienna.

Kien hemm dan l-amministratur li kellu l-akkuża li qed iberbaq ġid is-sid. Kienet akkuża vera? Mid-dehra kienet vera, għax donnu baqa’ sal-aħħar iberbaq il-ġid ta’ dan ir-raġel għani… Read more »

Pope: A smile can give meaning to a sick person’s day

Pope Francis on Friday morning travelled to Rome’s Gemelli Catholic University Hospital to celebrate Holy Mass marking the 60th anniversary of the foundation of its Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, named for the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The hospital, and its University campus, dedicated to the memory and vision of Father Agostino Gemelli,  is one of the most important and internationally acclaimed care providers in Italy… Read more »

The end of planning in Malta?

Reflection by the Interdiocesan Environment Commission on World Town Planning Day 2021

In recent months the message from several Government officials has been that they have their hands ‘tied’ when it comes to changing certain development plans and policies. This self-freezing attitude is one of choice and is not imposed on them by any legislation. They also choose to take long in making the changes to other plans and policies that they had promised to change. Such an attitude gives the impression that plans and policies in Malta can never change and when changed, so much time would have passed that one wonders whether the underlying reason is a laissez-faire attitude that allows developers to plunder the country’s urban and natural environment at the expense of communities that live in the affected areas and the wider general public… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 6th November

Readings of the day

First Reading: Rom 16, 3-9.16.22-27
Psalm: 144 (145), 2-3.4-5.10-11

Gospel: Lk 16, 9-15

In those days, Jesus told his disciples: “Make friends for yourselves by means of dishonest wealth so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into the eternal homes. Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. If then you have not been faithful with the dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you what is your own?

No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other… Read more »
