First Reading: Acts 15, 22-31
Psalm: 56 (57), 8-9.10-12

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.

You did not choose me but I chose you… Read more »

Staying close – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Message during the Prayer Vigil for the new priests

  The Capuchin Church, Kalkara

Nirringrazzjaw flimkien lil Alla għad-don tas-saċerdozju li qed jagħti lil Roderick, Jean Claude, Joshua u Mark, u li permezz tagħhom qed jagħti lill-Knisja, speċjalment lill-Knisja f’Malta. Hija okkażjoni ta’ ferħ kbir! Flimkien nirringrazzjaw lil Alla b’qalb mimlija mħabba, u nitolbuh ħafna għalihom.

Din ir-riflessjoni fiċ-ċelebrazzjoni li għamilna llum, li hi marbuta mal-ħsieb tal-Papa Franġisku, hi ta’ għajnuna kbira għalikom bħalma hi għalina, għal kull wieħed u waħda minna… Read more »

Pope at Audience: Contemplative prayer ‘a guide along path of love’

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!

We continue the catechesis on prayer and in this catechesis, I would like to reflect on contemplative prayer.

The contemplative dimension of the human being – which is not yet contemplative prayer – is a bit like the “salt” of life: it gives flavour, it seasons our day. We can contemplate by gazing at the sun that rises in the morning, or at the trees that deck themselves out in spring green; we can contemplate by listening to music or to the sounds of the birds, reading a book, gazing at a work of art or at that masterpiece that is the human face… Carlo Maria Martini, when he was sent to be the Bishop of Milan, entitled his first Pastoral Letter The contemplative dimension of life: the truth is that those who live in a large city, where everything – we can say – is artificial and where everything is functional, risk losing the capacity to contemplate… Read more »

The peace no one can take away – The Archbishop

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Dan id-diskors imqanqal hu diskors Ġesù, li jgħidu lid-dixxipli tiegħu f’Ħamis ix-Xirka. Kien jaf li se jkun ittradut, mogħti f’idejn il-ħżiena, kif jgħid hu stess, ikkundanat għal mewt l-iżjed ħarxa. Fl-istess ħin jitkellem dwar il-paċi. “Jiena nħallilkom is-sliem; nagħtikom is-sliem tiegħi; ma nagħtihulkomx kif tagħtih id-dinja” (Ġw 14:27). Id-dinja twegħedna ħafna, imma meta tfittex, tfittex; kollox isirlek suf. Il-Mulej f’mument ta’ emozjoni kbira, jgħid lid-dixxipli, “Tħallux qalbkom titħawwad u lanqas titbeżża’” (Ġw 14:27), u  javżhom li ser jinfired minnhom… Read more »

Global press freedom restricted over the past year

Day and night, and for 365 days a year, journalists around the world bring us information via radio, television, internet, and newspapers.
