Pope at Regina Coeli: Love means serving others, not controlling them

Dear Brothers and Sisters, buongiorno!

In this Sunday’s Gospel passage (Jn 15:9-17) after having compared Himself to the vine and us to the branches, Jesus, explains what fruit is borne by those who remain united to Him: this fruit is love. He again repeats the key-verb: abide. He invites us to abide in his love so that his joy may be in us and our joy may be full (vv… Read more »

“Those who hate others, also hate God” – The Archbishop

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Dawn is-siltiet mill-Evanġelju ta’ San Ġwann huma parti mid-diskors li San Ġwann jagħti; diskors twil li Ġesù jgħid qabel ma tibda l-passjoni tiegħu, dak il-jum li aħna nafuh bħala Ħamis ix-Xirka. Ġesù qed jispjega lid-dixxipli tiegħu li hemm ukoll vantaġġi b’dak li ser jiġri fuqu; ovvjament is-salvazzjoni tagħna. Din is-silta tal-Evanġelju titkellem ukoll dwar l-opportunità ta’ Ġesù, li huwa u jirritorna lejn il-Missier, ikun jista’ jibgħat lid-Difensur… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 11th May

First Reading: Acts 16, 22-34
Psalm: 137 (138), 1-2a.2bc-3.7c-8

Gospel: Jn 16, 5-11

In those days, Jesus told his disciples: “But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, “Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin and righteousness and judgement: about sin, because they do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; about judgement, because the ruler of this world has been condemned”… Read more »

Mass on the feast of St George Preca

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Blata l-Bajda

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Hija ta’ grazzja kbira għalina li qegħdin noffru din il-quddiesa hawnhekk fejn hawn miġbura wkoll il-fdalijiet ta’ San Ġorġ Preca. Illum nitolbu ħafna l-interċessjoni tiegħu.

Ġorġ Preca twieled il-Belt Valletta fl-1880 u miet Santa Venera fl-1962. Ta’ tmien snin il-familja tiegħu ġiet toqgħod il-Ħamrun u hawnhekk għex il-parti l-kbira ta’ ħajtu għaliex lejn l-aħħar snin ta’ ħajtu kellu mbagħad jiċċaqlaq mid-dar għal Santa Venera… Read more »

Psalm: 119, 32-42

Gospel: Mk 16, 14a. 15-20

Later Jesus appeared to the eleven themselves as they were sitting at the table, and he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The one who believes and is baptised will be saved; but the one who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: by using my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and proclaimed the good news everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it.  Read more »

Mass on Mother's Day

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Nixtieq li nistedinkom taħsbu ftit fuq esperjenzi fil-ħajja li jagħmluna kuntenti, li jagħtuna pjaċir. Qed nitkellem fuq dak li hu tajjeb, naturalment. Hemm ħafna affarijiet fil-ħajja li għalihom tgħid: ‘ara din tagħtini gost’. Jista’ jkun xi ħaġa li ilek tixtieq takkwista u akkwistajtha. Jew xi ħaġa li ppjanajt u marret kif xtaqt. Hemm ħafna affarijiet.

Imma mbagħad hemm ħaġa oħra li mhux biss tagħmilna kuntenti u tagħtina pjaċir, imma hi ħafna iktar minn hekk… Read more »
