Be the oil that the Lord pours onto your community – The Archbishop

Mass at the beginning of the pastoral work of Fr Joseph Mamo OFM Conv. as parish priest of St Paul's Bay parish

The Parish Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, St Paul's Bay

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġesù kien għamel l-esperjenza tal-missjoni tiegħu, u beda jgħallem u jfejjaq. Fl-Evanġelji tal-Ħdud li għaddew, rajna lil Ġesù jterraq fil-Galilija, ifejjaq u saħansitra jqajjem mill-imwiet lit-tifla ta’ Ġajru. Illum mar fir-raħal fejn trabba u jħoss li ma jilqgħuhx. L-urġenza li jwassal l-aħbar it-tajba tas-saltna tal-Missier hi qawwija ħafna; u jagħżel li jsieħeb miegħu wħud mid-dixxipli, minn dawk li kienu qegħdin isegwuh, li l-komunità bdiet issejħilhom it-Tnax, “u beda jibgħathom tnejn tnejn, filwaqt li tahom is-setgħa fuq l-ispirti ħżiena” (Mk 6:7)… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 12th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Ex 1, 8-14. 22
Psalm: 123 (124): 1-3.4-6.7-8

Gospel: Mt 10, 34 – 11, 1

In those days, Jesus told his apostles: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s foes will be members of one’s own household.

Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.”

Now when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and proclaim his message in their cities.  Read more »

Repentance is all about changing your mindset – The Archbishop

Sunday Mass on the feast of St Benedict, patron of Europe

The Church of St Anne at the Monastery of St Scholastica, Vittoriosa

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġesù jsieħeb miegħu grupp ta’ rġiel li skont it-tradizzjoni, l-ewwel komunità kienet issejħilhom ‘it-tnax’. Tnax kienu dawk li Ġesù għażel biex ikunu miegħu imma wkoll jibgħathom fil-missjoni tiegħu. Ma ninsewx li m’ilux fakkarna li meta Ġesù mar f’pajjiżu ma laqgħuhx u allura jiddeċiedi jmur fil-bliet kemm tal-Galilija u kemm tal-Lduhija jħabbar il-Bxara t-Tajba. Imma Ġesù ma jistax ilaħħaq waħdu u allura jsejjaħ lil dawn it-tnax u jibda jibgħathom tnejn tnejn  filwaqt li jagħtihom is-setgħa tiegħu nnifsu: is-setgħa fuq l-ispirti l-ħżiena (Mk 6:7)… Read more »

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings of the day

First Reading: Amos 7, 12-15
Psalm: 84 (85), 9ab-10. 11-12. 13-14
Second Reading: Ephes 1, 3-14

Gospel: Mk 6, 7-13

In those days, Jesus called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics.

He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.”

So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.  Read more »
