Gospel: Mk 6, 30-34

In those days, the apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognised them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.

As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.  Read more »

The greatness of Mary – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Il-kliem ta’ Ġesù li smajna fl-Evanġelju llum jista’ għal mument jinħass insensittiv, speċjalment lejn ommu. Hawnhekk naraw li Ġesù kien qed ikellem lin-nies, imbagħad xi ħadd jiġi jgħidlu: Hawn ommok u ħutek – kif nafu fl-Evanġelju “ħutek” huma “qrabatek” – qegħdin ifittxu li jkellmuk. Ma tiġrix spiss fl-Evanġelju li jgħidulu: hawn ommok u l-qraba tiegħek qegħdin ifittxu li jkellmuk; għalhekk timmaġina li Ġesù kellu jieqaf, jgħid lin-nies “skużawni ftit, għax hawn ommi barra ħa nara xi trid, ħa nkellimha naqra”… Read more »

WHO/UNICEF: Childhood vaccinations hindered by Covid-19 pandemic

An estimated 23 million children missed out on basic vaccines through routine immunization services last year, a figure representing 3.7 million more than in 2019, say the UN Children’s Fund and the World Health Organization.

Many of these children – up to 17 million – likely did not receive any vaccine throughout the year, resulting in the exacerbation of already present inequalities in access to vaccines… Read more »

New norms regarding the use of 1962 Roman Missal

After consulting the bishops throughout the world, Pope Francis has decided to modify the norms regulating the use of the 1962 missal granted 14 years ago by his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, as the “extraordinary form of the Roman Rite”. The Pope has published the Motu proprio Traditionis custodes, dated 16 July 2021, regarding the use of the Roman liturgy prior to 1970… Read more »

In those days, the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him. When Jesus became aware of this, he departed. Many crowds followed him, and he cured all of them, and he ordered them not to make him known. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah:

“Here is my servant, whom I have chosen, my beloved, with whom my soul is well pleased… Read more »

Thirsting for God – The Archbishop

Mass on the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Fl-ewwel qari ta’ din il-festa solenni tal-Madonna tal-Karmnu smajna silta minn kapitlu 18 mill-ewwel ktieb tas-Slaten. Is-silta tirrakkonta dak li ġara meta Elija tela’ fuq il-quċċata tal-Karmelu, dan il-grupp ta’ muntanji li jħarsu lejn il-Mediterran, u nxteħet fl-art, u qiegħed wiċċu bejn għarkupptejh (1 Slat 18:42) u beda jitlob. X’kien ġara?

Il-Mulej kien inkwetat b’dak li kien qed jagħmel il-poplu għażiż tiegħu, u lill-profeta tiegħu qallu: “Ma tagħmilx xita sakemm inti ma tagħtix il-kelma tiegħek għax inti bagħtek tkellimhom f’ismi”… Read more »

In those days, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.”

Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home… Read more »

There is great strength in empathy and compassion – The Archbishop

Mass on the memorial of St Bonaventura

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Hi silta qasira ħafna din, minn kapitlu 11 ta’ San Mattew. Hi waħda mis-siltiet tal-ikbar faraġ li nsibu fl-Evanġelji. L-ewwel nett Ġesù ma jbiegħed lil ħadd. Kultant aħna naħsbu li rrabjat magħna, li għandu l-geddum magħna. “Ejjew għandi” (Mt 12:28). Ta’ min nieqfu fuq din l-istedina ta’ Ġesù. M’hemmx għalfejn tistaħbew meta nkun għaddej jien: Ejjew għandi. Lil min qed jistieden? … Read more »
