TV marathon raises €513,000 for Dar tal-Providenza

€512,870 were raised during Sunday’s TV Marathon in aid of Dar tal-Providenza. Because of certain restrictions still being enforced by our Health Authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the whole programme was produced on the same lines as those of the new year’s day ‘Festa ta’ Ġenerożità’ marathon. Once again, in order to safeguard the wellbeing and the security of the residents, the annual Volleyball Marathon had to be canceled and nothing happened at the Home’s  Siġġiewi car park except for a ‘drive-through’ where persons wanting to make a donation did so without getting out of their car… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 5th July

Readings of the day

First Reading: Gen 28, 10-22a
Psalm: 90 (91), 1-2.3-4.14-15ab

Gospel: Mt 9, 18-26

In those days, a leader of the synagogue came in and knelt before Jesus, saying, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” And Jesus got up and followed him, with his disciples.

Then suddenly a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak, for she said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be made well.”

Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.

When Jesus came to the leader’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, he said, “Go away; for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl got up. And the report of this spread throughout that district.

Listening to those who are speaking to us in the name of the Lord – The Archbishop

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Ġesù jmur lura fejn trabba. Fil-fatt, għalkemm twieled f’Bethlehem, kien magħruf bħala Ġesù ta’ Nazaret. Dan l-isem jibqa’ miegħu sa fuq is-salib. Niftakru li meta Pilatu kiteb il-kitba tal-kundanna ta’ Ġesù, hekk isemmih: Ġesù ta’ Nazaret Sultan tal-Lhud.

Għal Ġesù, għalhekk, Nazaret kien il-villaġġ fejn qatta’ l-iżjed snin. It-tradizzjoni tgħidilna li x’aktarx wasal Nazaret wara li miet Erodi, ta’ xi 3 snin jew ftit iżjed, għaliex il-Familja Mqaddsa minn Bethlehem marret l-Eġittu, imma mill-Eġittu mbagħad marret il-Galilija ġo Nazaret u Ġesù baqa’ hemmhekk sa 30 sena… Read more »

Pope at Angelus: Open your eyes to God’s humble presence

Dear brothers and sisters, buongiorno!

This Sunday’s Gospel (Mk 6:1-6) tells us about the disbelief of Jesus’s fellow villagers. After preaching in other villages in Galilee, Jesus returned to Nazareth where he had grown up with Mary and Joseph; and, one sabbath, he began to teach in the synagogue. Many who were listening asked themselves: “Where does he get all this wisdom? … Read more »

Readings of the day

First Reading: Eph 2, 19-22
Psalm: 116, 1.2

Gospel: Jn 20:24-29

Thomas, who was called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”

A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them… Read more »
