Mass in the memorial of Bishop St Turibius of Mogrovejo

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Aħna u noqorbu lejn l-Għid nisimgħu iżjed lil Ġesù, b’mod speċjali fis-siltiet mill-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann, iħeġġeġ lil-Lhud, lill-kapijiet, lil dawk li qegħdin jisimgħuh għall-fidi.

Il-fidi li tfisser li jintelqu f’idejh, l-Iben tal-Missier, u minnu jirċievu l-ħelsien minn dnubiethom. Hija ħarxa dik il-kelma li jgħidilhom: “Intom se tmutu fid-dnub tagħkom […] se tmutu fi dnubietkom” (Ġw 8:24) jirrepetiha kemm-il darba… Read more »

Catholic charity backs campaign to protect minority girls in Pakistan

The Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) is supporting an effort to protect minority girls in Pakistan. The campaign will seek to safeguard Christian and Hindu girls, who are especially at risk of abduction and sexual abuse. The initiative will involve consulting with politicians, promoting community awareness of the issue, and providing legal help to victims.

ACN reports that they will work beside Pakistan’s national Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP). CCJP statistics show upwards of 1,000 cases of Christian and Hindu girls being abducted annually… Read more »

First Reading: Num 21, 4-9
Psalm: 101 (102), 2-3.16-18.19-21

Gospel: Jn 8, 21-30

In those days, Jesus said to the Pharisees: “I am going away and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come.” So the Jews said, “He is not going to kill himself, is he, because he said, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?”

He said to them, “You belong to what is below, I belong to what is above… Read more »

He saved her life and her dignity – Bishop Galea-Curmi

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Il-ġrajja tal-mara li nqabdet f’adulterju hi ġrajja rrakkuntata biss fl-Evanġelju ta’ San Ġwann.  Għandha ħafna x’tgħallimna għal ħajjitna. L-Iskribi u l-Fariżej ġabu lil din il-mara quddiem Ġesù, u skont il-liġi, suppost kellhom iħaġġruha. Imma ġew għand Ġesù mhux biex jieħdu l-parir tiegħu, imma biex ikollhom fuq xiex jixluh, iġibuh dahru mal-ħajt.

Dan għaliex jekk Ġesù jgħidilhom “imxu skont il-liġi”, huma jgħidulu: “fejn hu t-tagħlim tiegħek ta’ ħniena u ta’ mħabba?” U jekk Ġesù jgħidilhom: “tħaġġruhiex”, jgħidulu: “int ma tridx timxi skont il-liġi”… Read more »

Pope: Mafia organisations are exploiting pandemic to enrich themselves

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Buongiorno!

On this Fifth Sunday of Lent, the liturgy proclaims the Gospel in which Saint John refers to an episode that occurred in the final days of Christ’s life, shortly before the Passion (cf. Jn 12:20-33). While Jesus was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, several Greeks, curious because of what he had been doing, express the wish to see him… Read more »

We would like to see him – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the Fifth Sunday of Lent

The Parish Church of the Annunciation, Ħal Balzan

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Nixtiequ naraw lil Ġesù.” Din hi x-xewqa li kellhom dawn in-nies Griegi li xtaqu jaraw lil Ġesù. Ma kinux parti mill-grupp li jkun madwar Ġesù, għalhekk marru sabu dixxiplu tiegħu, lil Filippu, u qalulu b’din ix-xewqa: “Nixtiequ naraw lil Ġesù”. U Filippu u Indrì miegħu ħaduhom għand Ġesù.

X’kienet ir-reazzjoni ta’ Ġesù? L-ewwel kelma tiegħu kienet: “Waslet is-siegħa li bin il-bniedem ikun igglorifikat”… Read more »

What can we learn from Jesus’ suffering? – The Archbishop

Mass on the Fifth Sunday of Lent

  St Paul's Cathedral, Mdina

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

“Waslet is-siegħa li fiha Bin il-Bniedem ikun igglorifikat” (Ġw 12:23). Għal diversi drabi fl-Evanġelju ta’ San Ġwann, il-Mulej stess jgħid li ma kinitx għadha waslet is-siegħa tiegħu. Nieħdu pereżempju l-episodju sabiħ tat-tieġ ta’ Kana. Lil ommu jgħidilha: “Għada ma waslitx is-siegħa tiegħi” (Ġw 2:4). Imma issa li l-Griegi qed ifittxu li jarawh, qed jixxenqu biex isiru jafuh (ara Ġw 12:21), il-Mulej jifhem li waslet is-siegħa li jkun igglorifikat… Read more »
