We remain in his love – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass at the beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The Chapel of Our Lady of Manresa at the Archbishop's Curia, Floriana

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

Ġesù jitkellem fuq id-dielja u l-friegħi biex ifisser b’mod qawwi r-rabta tad-dixxipli miegħu, u għalhekk tagħna, aħna li lkoll dixxipli. Qed juri ċar li aħna għandna nkunu f’rabta intima miegħu, u minnu nirċievu l-ħajja, bħalma l-friegħi jirċievu l-ħajja mid-dielja.

Hekk biss jista’ jkollna l-ħajja, u hekk biss ikollna skop bħala dixxipli tiegħu. Fil-fatt, hu jgħid – u din hi l-esperjenza tagħna wkoll bħala dixxipli – li mingħajru ma nistgħu nagħmlu xejn… Read more »

13 Christians killed every day in the world because of their faith

Christians march in Abuja during a prayer and penance gathering for peace and security in Nigeria last year

Every day, 13 Christians worldwide are killed because of their faith, 12 churches or Christian buildings are attacked and 12 Christians are unjustly arrested or imprisoned, while another 5 are abducted.

This is according to the 2021 World Watch List annual report produced by Open Doors, a non-profit organization that chronicles persecution against Christians, guides prayers and shows persecuted believers that they are not forgotten… Read more »

Stay with me – Bishop Galea-Curmi

Mass on the 50th anniversary of the Burmarrad parish

Parish Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Burmarrad

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Dakinhar baqgħu miegħu.” Hekk naqraw fir-rakkont tal-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann li jurina l-ewwel dixxipli meta ltaqgħu ma’ Ġesù. Nixtieq li naħsbu fuq din is-silta, għax turina x’jiġifieri meta ngħidu li aħna dixxipli ta’ Ġesù, u x’jiġfieri wkoll il-komunità, li hi l-parroċċa, speċjalment fl-okkażjoni sabiħa li qed tiċċelebra l-ħamsin sena bħala parroċċa hawnhekk f’Burmarrad.

Dawn kienu tnejn mid-dixxipli ta’ Ġwanni l-Battista, li meta ra lil Ġesù għaddej, qal: “Araw il-Ħaruf ta’ Alla”… Read more »

The Gospel of the day: 18th January

Readings of the day

First Reading: Hebrews 5, 1-10
Psalm: 109 (110), 1.2.3.4

Gospel: Mk 2, 18-22

The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were accustomed to fast. People came to Jesus and objected, “Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? … Read more »

Man of action

The Holy Family with a Little Bird by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo Message by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi

We find very few references to St Joseph in the Gospel. At first glance, he seems to have lived an unremarkable life, the life of a simple artisan, with no outward sign of personal greatness. However, this humble figure, the ‘just man’ so near to Jesus and Mary, so intimately connected with their life, is a person full of significance if we look at him attentively… Read more »

Three words St John gives us today – The Archbishop

Mass on the second Sunday in ordinary time

The Church of St Catherine, Żejtun

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Din is-silta mill-ewwel kapitlu tal-Evanġelju skont San Ġwann fiha dizzjunarju żgħir. Ġwanni kien qed jikteb għall-komunità li bħalna ma kinitx komunità Lhudija u allura kellu bżonn ifisser xi kelmiet li l-Poplu ta’ Alla, il-poplu Lhudi, kien jaf ħafna imma li l-popli l-oħrajn kellhom bżonn jifhmu biex japprezzaw min hu Ġesù.

L-ewwel nett nixtieq nagħti u noffri riflessjoni qasira fuq dak li jgħid San Ġwann il-Battista… Read more »

Talba għat-Tqarbina tax-Xewqa

Ġesù, jiena nemmen li Inti tinsab tabilħaqq fis-Sagrament tal-Ewkaristija.
Irrid inħobbok fuq kollox u fuq kulħadd.
Inti taf li nixtieq nirċevik ġewwa fija.
Imma ġaladarba bħalissa ma nistax nilqgħek ġewwa fija sagramentalment,
nitolbok li tiġi fija spiritwalment.
Ejja għandi Ġesù tiegħi, biex jiena niġi għandek… Read more »

The Sunday Gospel: 17th January

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings of the day

First Reading: 1 Sam 3, 3b-10,19
Psalm: 39(40), 2,4ab,7-8a,8b-9,10
Second Reading: 1 Cor 6, 13c-15a,17-20

Gospel: Jn 1, 35-42

John was standing with two of his disciples; and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.

Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” And they said to him, “Rabbi”, which means Teacher, “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying; and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah”, which means Christ. He brought him to Jesus… Read more »
