Gospel: Lk 17, 7-10

In those days, Jesus said: “Who among you would say to your slave who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, “Come here at once and take your place at the table’? Would you not rather say to him, “Prepare supper for me, put on your apron and serve me while I eat and drink; later you may eat and drink’? Do you thank the slave for doing what was commanded?

So you also, when you have done all that you were ordered to do, say, “We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done!’ ”

L-omelija tal-Isqof Joseph Galea-Curmi

“Qegħdin tfittxu lil Ġesù ta’ Nażaret li kien imsallab. Qam mill-mewt, mhuwiex hawn” (Mk 16:6). Hi din l-Aħbar il-kbira li qiegħda fil-pedament tal-fidi Nisranija tagħna. Intom għandkom ix-xorti li l-Ordni Ekwestri tas-Santu Sepulkru ta’ Ġerusalemm hu proprju fil-qalba ta’ din l-Aħbar l-iktar importanti tal-fidi Nisranija. Intom twasslu din l-Aħbar li l-qabar hu vojt, imma hu vojt għax Kristu qam.

F’din l-okkażjoni sabiħa, insellem lilkom ilkoll, lil-logutenent, lill-kavallieri u d-dami u l-postulanti… Read more »

Why context matters

Article by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi

“A text without a context is a pretext for a prooftext”. I was reminded of this aphorism recently, when reading media reports on the words of Pope Francis.

A global media frenzy was created by a twenty-second clip taken from the documentary ‘Francesco’ by Russian filmmaker Evgeny Afineevsky on several highlights of the pontificate of Pope Francis. Pope bashers said his words were heretical and called on the Pope to repent… Read more »

We can never move forward without remembering the past – Remembrance Day 2020

  St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta

L-omelija tal-Arċisqof Charles Jude Scicluna

Qegħdin niċċelebraw, bħalma nagħmlu kull sena, Jum it-Tifkira, u f’dan il-jum għandna l-opportunità li nieqfu u mhux biss infakkru u nikkommemoraw imma wkoll b’sens ta’ gratitudni nerġgħu ngħixu t-tbatija li batew diversi minn ħutna minħabba l-kefrija tal-gwerra.

L-esperjenza tal-poplu tagħna hija esperjenza ta’ qsim il-qalb, b’mod speċjali fit-Tieni Gwerra Dinjija. Fl-Ewwel Gwerra Dinjija Malta saret l-infermiera tal-Mediterran u wriet li l-akkoljenza li timmarka l-isbaħ paġni tal-istorja ta’ pajjiżna, mhux hi biss akkoljenza fil-ferħ imma anke fin-niket… Read more »
