BENEDICT XVI VISITS OFFICES OF THE “OSSERVATORE ROMANO”

The Holy Father visited the headquarters of the “Osservatore Romano” newspaper, which is currently celebrating the 150th anniversary of its foundation. Its first edition appeared on 1 July 1861.

€14,500 DONATIONS IN SOLIDARITY WITH LIBYA AND HONDURAS

This year is dedicated to Voluntary Work.  As the Pastoral Commission for Work, we concentrated more on the work aspect as a decently paid employment.  But this year we also discussed the topic on how Voluntary Work correlates with the labour sphere.  The Maltese are getting used to allocate some time on one’s own agenda to perform some voluntary work, such individuals more than finding time to spare, actually boast a heart that aches to help out their brethren who happen to be in need.  … Read more »

PONTIFF: DON’T FORGET THE GOSPEL WHEN PACKING FOR VACATION

When packing for vacation this summer, leave space in your suitcase for the Gospel, Benedict XVI urges.

The Pope said this today when greeting those gathered in St. Peter’s Square today to pray the midday Angelus. Speaking in French, the Holy Father offered a brief reflection on summer vacation.

Vacation, he explained, “it’s not about leaving for the sake of leaving and resting, but rather it’s about living our relationships with our loved ones in a new way with God.”

He noted that the Gospel passage for this Sunday (Matthew 11: 25-30), which speaks of the yoke of Christ, points out to us the need for “rest and serenity.”

TWELVE NEW PRIESTS ORDAINED

On Sunday 3rd  July, 2011, Archbishop Paul Cremona OP ordained 12 young men to the priesthood (5 diocesan and 7 from religious orders) during a celebration at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta. The new priests are:

Youth Church in Paceville

This summer’s young protagonists have officially started the season with “Check-in”, in Paceville. Over one thousand young people are, over the coming two months, making unique experiences of faith either through voluntary work in Malta and abroad, or the World Youth Day pilgrimage in Madrid.

€293,529 RAISED IN AID OF DAR TAL-PROVIDENZA

On Friday 1st July, 2011, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. visited the fundraising volleyball Marathon in aid of Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi.

A total of €293,529 was collected during this Marathon.

AIDS PATIENTS AT FOREFRONT OF POPE’S PRAYER IN JULY

Pope Benedict XVIXVI is dedicating the month of July to pray for AIDS patients, especially those from the poorest countries of the world.

The Apostleship of Prayer announced the intentions chosen by the Pope for this month. His general intention is: “That Christ may ease the physical and spiritual sufferings of those who are sick with AIDS, especially in the poorest countries.”

Through its approximately 117,000 health care facilities around the world, the Catholic Church provides more than 25% of all care for those living with HIV and AIDS, especially children… Read more »
