SEMINAR BY THE SECRETARIAT FOR PARISH LIFE AND ACTIVITIES

On Saturday 29th May, 2010, the Secretariat for Parish Life and Activities together with Archbishop Paul Cremona OP, organised a Formation Seminar for the moderators of the Parish Pastoral Council hailing from seventy parishes in Malta.  The seminar was held at the Archbishop’s residence in Attard.

SYDNEY JOINS UK BISHOPS IN DENOUNCING ABORTION ADS

The Sydney Archdiocese is backing U.K. bishops in denouncing a television advertisement from an abortion service provider that aired in the United Kingdom this week.

The commercial, produced by Marie Stopes International, one of the biggest abortion providers in the United Kingdom, asks women, “Are you late?” If you’re late for your period, you could be pregnant,” the advertisement states. “If you’re pregnant and don’t know what to do, Marie Stopes International can help.”

The bishops’ conference of England and Wales released a statement denouncing the broadcasting of “services which offer or refer for abortion.”

CATHOLIC THEOLOGY CENTRE TO OPEN IN HAMBURG

Hamburg University

The University of Hamburg is preparing to launch a new center of Catholic theology and the pedagogy of religion, reports the Vatican. The Vatican press office reported today that on May 18, the Holy See and the city of Hamburg, Germany, “signed an agreement concerning the creation” of the center. POPE’S VISIT COMPETITION FOR CHILDREN: OVER 500 PARTICIPANTS

On Tuesday, 25th May, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona presented prizes to winners of a children’s competition organized by the Diocesan Commission for Children.  This competition was part of the activities organised to mark Pope Benedict’s XVI visit to Malta.  Many drawings, e-cards and writings were submitted by children aged 6 – 12 years.  An audio visual presentation highlighted moments from the warm welcome given to Pope Benedict XVI at St George’s Square, Valletta during his visit in Malta… Read more »

HOLY SEE-ISRAEL NEGOTIATIONS ADVANCE

Holy See-Israel relations continued on a positive course last week with another successful meeting of bilateral commission.

The Bilateral Permanent Working Commission between the Holy See and the State of Israel met last Thursday “to continue negotiations pursuant to Article 10 § 2 of the Fundamental Agreement,” a Vatican communiqué reported.”

The Fundamental Agreement was signed Dec. 30, 1993, and it established diplomatic relationships between the two entities… Read more »

‘MATER DEI’ STATUE INAUGURATED

On Tuesday, 25th May, 2010, Archbishop Paul Cremona O.P. blessed the statue of a sorrowful ‘Mother of God’, situated just infront of the main entrance of Mater Dei Hospital.  The statue was unveiled by Health Minister Joe Cassar. The three metre high bronze statue is the work of a 30 year old artist from Qrendi, Christopher Ebejer. The statue was cast at Chetcuti Foundry of Luqa… Read more »

CATHOLIC ACTION WARMS UP FOR WORLD YOUTH DAY

With Sunday’s feast of Pentecost, the youth of Catholic Action have begun a three-stage spiritual preparation for the 2011 World Youth Day in Madrid.

“It is the time to begin our spiritual pilgrimage in preparation for Madrid’s WYD, to start ‘warming’ the heart and mind,” said Chiara Finocchietti, the vice president of Italy’s youth branch. “At the center of this journey we place prayer and the support of the saints.”
