HOLY SEE ACCORD WITH BRAZIL ENTERS INTO FORCE

An agreement signed by the Holy See and Brazil entered into force today, with a formal ratification ceremony in the Vatican. The agreement, signed Nov. 13, 2008, “consolidates further the traditional bonds of friendship and collaboration existing between the two parties,” a communiqué from the Holy See stated.

The agreement has a preamble and 20 articles, which regulate the juridical status of the Catholic Church in Brazil, recognition of degrees, religious education in public schools, and canonical marriage, among other things… Read more »

VATICAN URGES PRIESTS TO KEEP PRAYER LIFE STRONG

When a priest begins to pray less, his own faith is weakened and the Christian community he cares for suffers, says the prefect of the Congregation for Clergy.

Cardinal Cláudio Hummes said this in a letter he wrote for priests on the importance of prayer. It was released by the dicastery today.

ECUMENICAL SERVICE ON CAMPUS

On Wednesday, 9th December 2009, representatives of various Christian denominations attended an Ecumenical Service organised by the University Chaplaincy. Amongst those present, Anglicans and Lutherans, together with Archbishop Paul Cremona OP met for a moment of prayer celebrating the love, peace and unity brought to us by our Lord Jesus Christ. PRELATE: CLIMATE DEBATE SHOULD CENTER ON POOR

The archbishop of Westminster is affirming that helping the poorest persons should be at the center of the climate change debate. Archbishop Vincent Nichols said this Saturday at a “Time to Pray” ecumenical service regarding the environment and climate change.

ITALIAN BILL WOULD RECOGNISE RIGHTS OF UNBORN

Unborn child

A proposal in the Italian Senate would recognize the rights of the unborn, affirming that every human being has juridical capacity from the moment of conception.
