Following the success of the World Youth Day Song Contest 2009, which was held last April with the participation of 10 local bands, the Youth Diocesan Commission (KDZ) wishes to inform all Christian Bands that the fifth edition of this Contest is going to be held on Saturday, 27th February, 2010 at the Salesian Oratory in Sliema. This edition of the contest is the second one from a cycle of three that will lead to the 2010 WYD that will be held in Spain. The theme proposed by his Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for the year 2010 is “Good Teacher, What Must I do to Inherit Eternal Life?” (Mk 10:17) The Official Youth Theme Song for 2010 will be chosen from this Contest.
The purpose of the WYD Song Contest is not merely to choose an Official Theme Song. The Contest serves to help local Christian Bands work together in order to create a song inspired by the Pope’s theme for youths during the particular year. Christian Bands are invited to give life to God’s Word through their musical talents. In this way, the Christian message is conveyed to youths in a most modern and contemporary way, i.e.: music.
The original song (together with a copy of the lyrics and a demo) must be submitted by Friday, 22nd January, 2010, and will be evaluated by an independent Quality Team in order to assess whether the song is in line with the message of the Pope’s theme and that it is appropriate for a theme song for youths.
