On Friday, 13th August, 2010, the Diocesan Youth Commission (KDŻ) launched the World Youth Day 2011 programme, reaching its climax in August next year, in Madrid. Hundreds of young people attended the event to be among the first to obtain the application of intent to participate in the WYD in Spain. The form was made available on the commission’s website www.kdz.org.mt.
The launch was hosted by the Mġarr Parish Youth group who organized the evening and animated the Eucharist, celebrated by Archbishop Paul Cremona. In his homily, the Archbishop urged young people to let the forthcoming year be an experience centered on Christ. Echoing the theme of WYD 2011, the Archbishop said that planting ourselves in Christ is a quiet and interior affair that “bears its fruit out in the open”.
Holy Mass was followed by a festival featuring video projections; encounter stands by MKSU and Youth Fellowship; testimonials by Ms Raina Gatt and Mr Albert Sciberras; and a concert by six Christian bands: Salt, Rise, The Prophecy, Footprints, Stagecraft and Santa Marija Accordion Band.
