Friday, October 8th, 2010 was Volunteer’s Night where young people who spent their summers in voluntary missions came together to share their experiences. The activity, held at the University Chaplaincy, included presentations by volunteers who worked with the poor in Kenya; young people who organised an adventurous holiday in Wales for disabled persons; and volunteers who, together with the Sisters of Charity, opened a summer school for children in Cospicua. Beneficiaries of these voluntary projects also testified their experiences.
This is the fourth year Volunteers’ Night is being held where the Archbishop welcomes back the young volunteers with their new experiences. This year the Archbishop could not attend since he was indisposed. However, he addressed the audience by phone. The young people greeted him with a spontaneous applause in appreciation of his willingness to be with them. On his part, the Archbishop said he was sorry he had missed this “much-awaited” occasion.
The Archbishop praised the generosity of the volunteers and thanked them “on behalf of the Church and of society”. He said that their joy and enthusiasm is a sign that the world is built not of grand deeds but of little ones. The young people thanked the Archbishop for his encouraging words and wished him good health.
This edition of Volunteers’ Homecoming was commissioned by KDŻ to members of the Society for Christian Doctrine (MUSEUM). The evening included live music, feautures, prayer and was followed by a reception.
