Players during the Volleyball marathon

€632,153 were raised by the end of the 53-hour BOV Volleyball Marathon at midnight Sunday, 20th July 2025.

Forty players went through fifty-three hours of non-stop volleyball. The Marathon started on Friday evening when it was officially inaugurated by H.E.  Dr Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta and continued since then.

Mgr Martin Micallef, Director of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, thanked the people of Malta and Gozo, that once again responded with so much generosity to the call for fundraising for the Home through the Volleyball Marathon. He also thanked the players, the volunteers, members of the organising committee, all the sponsors, the main TV stations that relayed the marathon, singers and bands, the members of the police force, the band of the Armed Forces of Malta and all those that in one way or another helped towards the success of this Marathon.

Archbishop Mgr Charles J. Scicluna celebrated mass at the Home’s chapel assisted by Fr Bernard Micallef and Mgr Martin Micallef on the occasion of the Jubilee of Sport with the attendance of persons involved in sports. The Archbishop welcomed those that took part in the fun run and those taking part in the Volleyball Marathon and told them that all those dedicating themselves to sport will also be taking care of their health. This is the quality of life that we as a society should embrace.

Today’s activity was part of celebrations by the Archdiocese of Malta on the occasion of the Great Jubilee of Hope when the whole Catholic world, christians and all people of goodwill are being invited to become pilgrims of hope in today’s world through acts of faith, charity and unity.

Besides the forty players that were the main protagonists of the Marathon, there were around one hundred volunteers helping out. Every evening there was musical entertainment on the main stage, food and drinks and children’s games.

The marathon was relayed live on the main local TV stations whilst Vibe FM was the official radio station.
