• Over 3,600 persons visited the Archbishop’s Palace during the Valletta Green Festival organised by the Valletta 2018 Foundation, between Friday 28th and Sunday 30th April 2017. Visitors were given a unique opportunity to view the underground vaults, and to admire the picturesque garden with its seventeenth-century fountain and running water. Access to the Archbishop’s Palace was free of charge. Sunday afternoon proved to be the busiest, with almost 1,000 visitors.

The Open Days were inaugurated by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna, who was accompanied by the Curia’s Administrative Secretary, Michael Pace Ross.

Mr Pace Ross said that the Archdiocese supports these initiatives since the Archbishop firmly believes that the ecclesiastical patrimony, which forms an important part of Malta’s cultural heritage, is to be cherished and appreciated. “We are guardians more than proprietors, and such initiatives help create awareness about the Church’s patrimony and the support needed for its upkeep.”

The Archdiocese of Malta is planning to open the Archbishop’s Palace again next year, as part of the activities marking Valletta as the 2018 Capital of Culture.
