The Apostolic Nuncio welcomed at Dar tal-Providenza

The new Apostolic Nuncio for Malta, H.E. Mgr Alessandro D’Errico paid an official visit to Id-Dar tal-Providenza in Siġġiewi. He was welcomed by Fr Martin Micallef, Director of the Home, and met the residents and their support workers. He also found time to visit the chapel and Dun Mikiel’s Museum and grave and then toured the therapeutic pool and the St Isidore Agriculture Centre.

In his short address, Fr Martin referred to the 52 years of Id-Dar tal-Providenza which would not have been made possible without the vision of its founder Dun Mikiel Azzopardi and without its dedicated workers, professionals and Sisters of Charity together with benefactors who believed in the cause and helped to get it started and kept it going. He pointed out that on the 11th of February next year the Home will be commemorating the 50th anniversary of the welcome of the first three residents. Fr Martin referred to the continuous generosity of the Maltese people as well other regular benefactors who have collectively helped to improve the quality of life of the residents.

The Apostolic Nuncio showed his appreciation for the warm welcome he was given on what he called a special day for him because he saw for himself the involviment of the Maltese Church, which is absolutely important especially to Pope Francis because of his great awareness and love of this dimension of the Church that is close to those who need her especially persons with disability.

At the end of the meeting with the residents, Mgr D’Errico joined the residents, support workers and staff of Id-Dar tal-Providenza in wishing resident Frankie Cortis a happy 72nd birthday.

The Apostolic Nuncio was accompanied by the Councillor of the Nunciature, Mgr Simon Bolivar Sanchez.
