2017 Financial Report of the Archdiocese of Malta: Rise in wage bill, higher subsidies contribute to lower surplus

  • In 2017, the Archdiocese of Malta registered a decrease of €1.44 million in its net surplus to €0.37 million, down from €1.81 million in 2016. 

    Expenditure went up due to the continuous drive to improve pastoral services, resulting in additional employees across the entities of the Archdiocese.   • The Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Joseph Galea-Curmi as Auxiliary Bishop of Malta nominating him Titular Bishop of Cebarades. Presently, Monsignor Galea-Curmi is the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Malta.

    As Auxiliary Bishop, His Lordship Monsignor Galea-Curmi, 54, will be the closest collaborator and advisor of His Grace Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna with leadership responsibilities in the Curia and in diocesan pastoral ministry.
