Statement by the Bishops of Malta and Gozo

In the light of recent developments and bearing in mind that what was stated by His Holiness Pope Frances yesterday at Lampedusa, we, the Maltese bishops wish to appeal to the Civil Authorities of Malta to safeguard the dignity of every person who reaches our shores, to fulfill Malta’s obligations in the international arena and to uphold a policy of hospitality. We also appeal that, through all legitimate means, they continue to insist that other countries share this burden. May God continue to bless the generous hearts of the Maltese people.
