• RTK 4 Charity – Families in Need

  • RTK 4 Charity’s Christmas Campaign 2013 in aid of Families in Need was launched today during a special programm.  This is the 20th consecutive year that RTK radio is organizing this campaign, which collects money for families in need in Malta and Gozo, and for Refugees presently residing in Malta.  A small percentage of these donations go towards Dar tal-Kleru in Birkirkara.

During this year’s inauguration Mons. Victor Zammit McKeon, director of Children’s Homes ‘’Ufficcju Centrali Djar tat-tfal’’, gave an in-depth explanation of how the money collected is spent on these families in need.  He also stated that should one day this Campaign seize to exist, it would be most difficult for his office to keep on offering the necessary help offered on a monthly basis to these families. ‘’It is of utmost importance for us to provide these children with food which is vital for their development and upbringing’’.

Mons Alfred Vella director of the Emigrants’ Commission said that at present thousands of refugees are seeking help from the Commission. He explained that once these individuals leave the detention centre they immediately call on the Centre to ask for assistance.  ‘’We meet with all sorts of cases of suffering and we try to help them in the best way we can’’ continued Fr Alfred. He added that the money that is donated through this Campaign is mostly used to buy necessary medicines that are not offered on National Health.

RTK 4 Charity Families In Need  reaches it’s climax on Sunday 22nd  December during a special party organized at the Seminary in Tal-Virtu’ Rabat, which is attended by around 300 children from families in need and refugees.  Archbishop Mons Paul Cremona also visits these children during the party.  This party includes entertainment – singing, dancing, animation and Father Christmas, the children’s main attraction, who comes to donate their much awaited presents.

On Thursday 5th and Friday 6th December the Theology Students at the University of Malta organise a two day marathon on Campus: Make My House a Home, which has for the past years formed part of the RTK 4 Charity’s Christmas Campaign.
