• Pope sends message for victims of explosion in Argentina

  • Pope Francis has sent a message of condolences to Archbishop José Luis Mollaghan of Rosario in Argentina following a deadly gas explosion which destroyed a residential apartment block in the city on Tuesday. At least 10 people died in the blast and another 60 were injured, while rescue teams continue to search for a dozen people listed as missing. The Argentina government has declared two days of national mourning for the victims in the country’s third largest city.

In the message, sent in the Pope’s name by the Vatican’s Secretariat of State, the Holy Father assures all those affected by the tragedy of his prayers for the eternal repose of the souls of the victims and his closeness to the bereaved and injured. The message was read out in public during a Mass and procession marking Tuesday’s feast of St Cajetan.
