Festa ta’ Ġenerożità, organised by Dar tal-Providenza, is on for January 1st with an appeal for funds badly needed by the Home.
In order to safeguard the safety and wellbeing of its residents and workers and to be in line with the directives issued by the Health authorities the event will be broadcast again from We studios in Ħal Qormi. The studios will only be accessible to those answering the telephones and invited guests. As in the past, ‘Festa ta’ Ġenerożità’ will be aired on local TV stations between noon and midnight. At 9:30am, TVM will broadcast a live Mass from the Home’s chapel, which will be celebrated by Archbishop Charles Scicluna.
Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Dar tal-Providenza, said this year was a very particular one because of the COVID-19 pandemic, that unfortunately claimed the life of one of its residents. However, thanks to the vaccines, the lives of the residents are back to normal as they have started meeting face to face with their relatives and friends, as well as attending community activities.
Residential services offered by the Home are personalised services to meet the residents’ needs and aspirations. “We are committed,” said Fr Martin, “To continue improving more and more on the quality of life of our residents and to see that these services provide inclusion and participation in community events. To do this we are always looking at ways and means to invest every year in human resources, to purchase new equipment, carry on maintenance works as well as budgeting for capital projects aiming at opening more homes in the community.”
Naturally, fund raising activities during this year were again limited except for Festa ta’ Ġenerożità as well as the July marathon that was televised instead of the usual volleyball activity.
Fr Martin continued saying that apart from the negative side of this year Dar tal-Providenza also had some nice moments especially when receiving the European Citizen Award. A recognition on European level of the Home’s work meant a lot to the administration, workers and volunteers.
As from today until January 1st, one can make a donation by using the various facilities outlined hereunder. All donations between now and the new year will be included in the final tally at the end of the marathon.
